Do you think you will really save enough to offset the $300 ticket you will get from doing that?

I recently drove from Seattle to Phoenix and back and drove 60MPH the entire trip. No tickets and 62MPG!!!!

I'm not worried.

Wait a minute. . . you're talking about the mirrors. . .

Might as well thicken the plot.

The LOST member Joe is buying from is ME!

Liberty is sealed up in my garage and I'm sitting at a Jeep dealer getting a bankruptcy deal on a new 2008 leftover Grand Cherokee CRD.

Deal is done. $22,990 for a new GC CRD. Got me out the door for $24,999. Only kicker is....it's two wheel drive. Oh I hear ya....but hey, I think my Liberty has had the 4WD engaged less than half a dozen times since I've owned it. No real snow here in Tennessee and no way I'm taking such a nice vehicle off road. If I had a $5000 beater that I didn't care about scratching up, well, I'd beat it to death, but not my daily driver.

So...I'm still in the Jeep family. Still driving a diesel. Just not a Liberty. :)

Joe, you're gonna love my Liberty. It's a sweet little ride. The GC feels SOOOO much bigger, even though it doesn't have that much more room in it.

I don't think so  Based on past experience with diesel cars from a stock 1982 Datsun diesel pickup, 1986 Volvo 740 station wagon and many VW's of various configurations I also expected mileage in the 30 MPG range. My hightest has been 25 and that was once. I don't do a lot of driving anymore but I do average just about 20 in city driving. Chrysler has the engine and transmission management pretty messed up as far as fuel mileage goes.

The worst I saw on my Liberty without towing a trailer was 27. I've seen as high as 30.2.

Towing a trailer I've got as good as 26mpg and as little as 18.

I just picked up my new Grand Cherokee CRD yesterday, and the new engine is TIGHT! All interstate driving, I calculated the mileage at 22mpg. OUCH!

I know it will loosen up a lot, so I'm not worried about it now. I was also varying my speeds a lot, and doing "short full throttle bursts" as suggested by the owners manual (and as suggested by me!). I'll be dumping the factory oil reasonably quickly.

I bet I get 34 mpg on my drive home!

Your mileage will improve Chad. When that motor hits
15,000 miles you'll be impressed!

She shifts into 5th gear at 62mph. If you are good (and on flat ground) you can do 60 in fifth if you back off after the downshift.

I would figure this would give you the best mileage, but time is money, and when I'm driving somewhere, I'll give up a few mpg to get there sooner.

Chad, with that inmotion will she run hills while staying in 5th without shifting down? It should have enough torque to do it!!!

I've hit 36mpg once in the CRD. And that was babying it.

Breaking 30 is a much more reasonable, and attainable goal. Plus its something you can do with a greater frequency.

Well we will see how I do. I usually fold in the mirrors, remove the antenna, pump up the tires to the max and drive 60mph and 55 when possible.

Oh yeah...it will pull up hill in top gear, even towing 2000lbs.

Problem is, if you plan on granny footing it, when it gets to around 60mph, it's gonna want to downshift.

Listen troll. Buy a CRD or STFU. You're posting all over the board and haven't a thing to add.

chad, with 3.73 gears and a high 5th gear ratio (.87 i believe), getting the mileage of the KJ with the WK will be a feat in and of itself. Good luck with it!

I got a Limited because that's what was what I found.
2005 White (right color for AZ).

Things I like about the limited:
Seats...leather, heat, electrical adjust.
Cruise control on steering wheel.
Fog Lamps

things I prefer on the Sport
black fender flares are more rugged looking.
Prefer solid color grill not chrome.

But I'm happy with what I found.

Oh, I don't expect the same mileage. I figure I'll be really lucky to get 25mpg highway. So far, city mileage is near what I expected, about 19mpg. I was getting 20 - 22mpg in the Liberty.

As long as I don't see HIDEOUS mileage, I'm a happy guy. It's a big SUV, and I need to space and towing ability. If I didn't, I'd be in a Jetta TDI getting stellar mileage. :)
