Took a whole lot of hand soap to get such a large braided sleeve past all those bends but it looks pretty bulletproof now.

I like your mod. I have a set of SAMCO hoses that I have been putting off installing. How long did it take you to slide that condom on?

I'd like to see what the end result of this is.

Of what? The broken hose resolution? or the chinese finger braiding?

Both samco and the distributor offered to replace it right away if it was a defective unit.

I've been shopping Samcos too (can't find them for less than $300) so I also would like to know the end result on the hose failure. Was it rubbing/ piercing, that would necessitate the braided sleeve, or was it a failure of the hose material itself, from the inside out?

Well my driver side CAC blew today. 72000 miles on the clock. The passenger side was replaced by the dealer at 20000. I'll update everyone on duct tape's effectiveness tomorrow.

The hoses are a little wider in diameter, = more airflow, and are silicon-based, which oil from the CCV will not degrade.

Oh, that is good to know. Have you got more info on the tape?

Walmart sells it. It is an extreme duty duck tape, and will hold just about anything.

I took a glance @ my Samco's today had them in for about 8 mo. my concern was on the passenger side the AC :?: hose connection (hose to metal) was rubbing slightly and looked slightly burned (black) on the blue samco's where it was touching and slightly rubbing. Hope I caught this early enough that it wont cause the hose to fail.

Has anyone else had an issue rubbing on this spot??

So I slipped on the mesh cover left over from the OEM driver side and padded the AC hose connection w/ a small left over section on heater hose from the ProVent install and wrapped in electrical tape until I can get something better.

I liked your approach so I bought some of this stuff off Amazon (on sale for ~$14). I was a sweaty mess by the time I worked that thing on. It wouldn't have been so bad but the middle section of the braid seemed to have a smaller diameter and I had to work like crazy to get that part onto the tube.

I installed it even though I don't seem to have a rubbing problem on the passenger side with this smaller tube. However, I am getting a slight rub on the driver side with the connector that plugs into the AC hose where the big tube just starts to bend down from the intake. It's also tight on the other side of this location so there's not much room in this area in my vehicle. Will probably wrap something around the connector and/or samco in that area to avoid damage.

I almost bought Samcos, but all the talk about the rubbing issues PLUS the talk about how they swell up under pressure made me think twice. Swelling hoses = inconsistent amounts of air flowing through the system = less than perfect performance. Best thing to do is stick with the factory upgraded hoses, or fab up some aluminum tubing (which I'm shocked nobody sells yet).

The self-fusing silicone tape wrap is still tightly adhered to my hoses. Lap the tape about 50% and stretch it while wrapping. Clean the exterior of the hoses before wrapping. Original plastic braid can be slipped over wrapped hoses (lubricate with soap or silicone spray).

I don't know about you guys, but I would not want that steel braid stuff in my engine bay. It rubs against everything else, sitting there like a giant vibrating file, eating away at anything rubber or plastic that touches it. I had another car with a braided steel covered fuel line that came around the valve cover, it sagged and pulled tight against the aluminum and wore 1/16" deep into it in a few thousand miles.

Maybe I'm missing something here...

If I'm correct, we're talking about the sensor that hangs vertically from the air box rubbing on the Samcos? Easy solution: loosen the front side worm clamp, turn the hose to the right slightly, tighten clamp. Boom! No more rubbing....
