Quiet Tires

I have Uniroyal Liberator A/T 225 75 16's. They are now extremely noisy, after about 25000 miles. I want to replace them with a quiet tire, I do not off road. any suggestions and size? Low cost is important.

BFG radial long trail TAs are very quiet, are a good value for the money, and wear very well.

I ran a set of cooper ATRs on the CRD and I thought they were excellent. I can't say for wear resistance and noise after a longer period, because I had to sell the jeep shortly after (not because of the tires for sure!

)

I'm having a set of Firestone Destination A/T's put on tomorrow on a stock setup. (no lift) I'll be taking about a 100-mile highway trip on Sunday, so I'll post results either late Sunday or early Monday. $119/ tire plus install. If you're staying with 225/75/16 I imagine the cost would be at or around $109/ tire.

x2 on the BFG's, though. I had a set of BFG T/A KO's on a Pathfinder and there was no tire thrum at highway speed. Good tire, and I would have bought them again except for the price difference.

the noise in my opinion is front wheel bearings.....I had a tire shop install new tires, and the same noise. They will take back the tires. We jacked up the front end and spun the wheels, you can hear the noise.

I'm glad you found the source. I like my Destinations. Had them put on Saturday, and they handled the highway slog yesterday and today with no problem at all. Much more stable at speed than the stockers (which SUCK!).

I haven't quite had them on for 48 hours yet, but I'm thinking that for the money, these are great tires.

Michelin LTX m/s are the longest lasting quietest tires you can buy. Only down side is they aren't that great in mud. There is anew Michelin A/T tie out if they are as good as the LTX m/s you can have more off road traction.

Been there, done that. I have a set of Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's for winter and off road. They are noisy, I expect that. Problem was, one spring I put them away and the noise was still there...

Turned out to be front bearings also. No wonder I was only getting 18 mpg that winter.

I had attributed the bearing failure to the fact that the wheels holding the MT/R's are zero offset (not negative offset like the stock wheels). This places the load further out. Are you using the OEM rims?

Yes stock wheels, and tire sizes. I have found a front hub assy (right) for $215.00 will change it tonight. What size nut on axle?

I found the Firestone Destination ATs and the Pirelli Scorpion ATRs to both be fairly quiet all-terrain tires.

You can get Timkin hubs for a KJ cheaper then $215,shop around but make sure they are OEM or Timkin only.The CV it is 35mm socket,same axle nut socket that GM FWD cars use also.

Hey, can I ask how many miles before you changed front wheel bearings?? My wifes doesn't make noise but when I saw them they were suspect...they ride alright I think, but at 124k they may be needing replacement soon!!

Also, I had my 36mm socket and it fit right on the hub nut...but it did have a tiny bit of play, so it could be 35.

I have 66000 miles, and the right (pass) side went out. I used a 36mm. You will have to get the inverse trox sockets for the hub bolts.
