synthetic oil verus semi synthetic oil

have a question
did a oil change during the week,this time the supplyer gave me SYNTHETIC OIL ,didnt notice it till today,any other time i change oil i use semi synthetic oil
says on can 'synthetic blend
heard before synthetic oil isnt good for crd engine,can you confirm,if it is,ill have to change it to semi synthetic

Youre driving a CRD! ALL MODERN DIESELS SHOULD RUN FULL FULL FULL FULL SYNTHETIC OIL ONLY! Once you've allowed dino oil to break in the engine and seat the rings you should ONLY be running FULL synthetic oil!!!

Crank Journal sizes, piston wrist pin sizes, piston ring width, piston skirt sizes, cam lobe sizes, and even gear teeth driving the counter balance weights, were all determined by the lubrication properties of the synthetic oil chosen by the VM Engineering Team.
Put in mineral oil, and you are asking for trouble.
You could put synthetic oil in a 1935 and if you have a clean engine so you don't wash out the old sludge and other crap into the oil and contaminate it, the engine will run great. But, never down grade your engine's requirements.

Warpy did a better job at explaining it than did I. I get emotional about oil!!! Weird I know. You can't OVER protect your engine, and synthetic oil is EONS ahead of dino in the protection department.

synthetic oils are custom made to have molecules the same size
this allows them to be more stable at temperature and under stress
less oil breakdown - less sludge

even highly refined petroleum based oils have a mixture of molecular weights
therefore some of them will be small enough to evaporate or oxidize easily
others can break down under stress

a synthetic blend typically has around 30% synthetic - so better lubrication than pure petroleum based
but no better for sludge buildup or thermal breakdown.

so synthetic blend is ok in vmi 2.5 engine
before this i used semi synthetic oil,was just worried as i was told by someone before that full synthitic wouldnt be good for crd vmi

check the owners manual - the 2.8 requires pure synthetic - no blends, no semi.

if the 2.5 allows petroleum based - then a blend is better - straight synthetic is best.

Quality oil is cheap insurance.

You can get top quality, full synthetic oil for less than $10 a quart and even cheaper if you shop around or buy in bulk.

getting full synthetic at waht ever price wasnt my issue,was just making sure it was ok to use on crd vmi engine was ok,
was told by guys it was,so thats cool

Yes i was tempted to say save the extra pennies on the full synthetic and have a few extra Jameson's instead and that's coming from a Macker..

You can use semi but change the oil more frequently which then defeats the purpose really so use the full synthetic and enjoy, it's like having a Jameson verus a Jack Daniels :twisted:

I know it's been discussed heavily before, but for what it's worth, the engines' all ship with Mobil1 in the pan, used since the first hot test. Myself, I always run that oil and have never had any problems, but to each their own.

But for sure I wouldn't run anything less than a full synthetic.
