To the IT boffins out there, does it make any difference if i use Linux or Windows as an operating system when on these forums in terms of threats from keyloggers and virus etc.

Is one more preferential to the other or is it more what software security programs are available for either operating system to prevent any of this activity from happening.

I'm trying to understand how these forums operate etc...

Thanks for any help.

You should have no concern whatsoever for key loggers and so forth, from this forum, regardless of operating systems, platform, or security software.

Linux is much more secure than Windows.

Thanks does that mean okay to use without firewalls and the likes as i haven't come across many software programs for Linux on the net which i've just recently migrated to.

most unix based systems have the firewall built into the kernel

I'm not sure how to set them up, but it's something with net filters and iptable configurations, normally there's a script that runs when you setup the system - you should have some documentation that came with the system.

(when I run into problems - I have serious geeks at work - they prefer that I don't mess it up too much before I call them)

Yeah but while these geeks talk about kernels and the works, talk to them about your crd and common rail and EGR's and Provent's and see their reaction.

Ubuntu rules! I've had it for years and never had a problem with security or crashing. My computers are dual booted and whenever I run Vista I have issues.

Think we should have a go at manufacturing Jeeps and export them to you with the manual boxes and no F37 uploads.

I'd go for that.
