Uh oh!!

We have to keep an eye on the weather this week. The Weather Channel is calling for isolated thunder storms in Cima, CA on Monday and Tuesday. If there is any significant amount of rain in that area, it could easily make Soda Dry Lake impassable, forcing us to find a detour around it....

Weather Update:

What a difference 12 hours made. The Weather Channel is no longer forecasting 'isolated thunder storms' for today or tomorrow. However, there is still a 10~20% chance of precipitation. From what I've read, 'any' amount of moisture in Soda Dry Lake can make things unpredictable. Fingers crossed the weather holds out. I really want to cross the dry lake.

Where is our resident meteorologist when you need his input??? Neatus... what say you? Any rain forecasted in the Mojave Desert this week???

Image

I'm re-reading the Wells book and the Mojave Road Guide to try and get more familiar with the area. I hope other people are too, and will be able to help with route finding....

Scott... I was wrong. When I called BLM awhile back, they told me the group size limit was 6/14. You were correct, each group can have up to 7 vehicles and 15 people.....

Vern... I'll trade you an Expedition 2009 sticker for an AZ LOST JEEPS decal!!

Image

Just think, I've been waiting on this trip since back in Jan...this time next week, for better or for worse, the Expedition will be in the history books, and we'll be on our way back to Phoenix.

Thanks Vern. I used Wells' way points. The Mojave Book suggests the only way around is to go north to Baker and then back down. Hope we don't have to go that way.

Ernie... sorry you can't make it. We'll do a scouting mission this time and maybe do it again in the fall, if anyone is interested.

Okay, unless we have last minute sign up's for the Expedition, here's the line up....

1. AZKJ +1
2. Signcutter21 +1
3. Oldhockeyvb +
4. 2006KJSPORT4x4 +2
5. JJsKJ + 1
6. KE7NEG +1
7. Preston +1

I'm was just sitting here reading and looking up things about our upcoming trip across the Mojave Road. I came across this short 5 min video. Everyone might want to take a look at what we're in for. Keep in mind we're running it in reverse, so crossing Afton Canyon, the Mojave River and Soda Dry Lake will be at the very begining of our trip.

The video hung up several times. Played it again and it worked fine. Enjoy....

That video was so good I felt like I have already been there. If I stayed home and slept who would keep you in line?

Finally, after five months. we're on our way to Barstow!!! The Mojave Road Expedition 2009 gets underway tomorrow morning... yahoo!!

I heard from Mike, he said he was on the road last night as was Vern. Dave will be underway in a couple of hours. Haven't heard from Scott. Preston will leave LV early AM to meet up with us.

As usual, a trip report and plenty of pics will be posted soon after we get home Monday, Tuesday at the latest.

Sorry for the extreme late notice guys/gals but I will be unable to make it due to some work related issues on the other side of the country, I actually fly out for MD tomorrow for a 2 day conference ~~insert extreme sigh and expletives~~ unfortunately it is for a sad event that happened out East at another test facility similar to YPG. If you check the local baltimore papers you might find a story on it. Anywho you guys have a lot of fun without me so you can brag about it to me and I expect tosee some awesome photos!! Take care!!
