wow, lets calm down on the animal killing. I usually stop if something runs out in front of me, if you rear end me, im going to sue you all i can b/c my neck hurts. I hope your own kids cat never runs out in front of you. what are you going to say? I didnt feel like stopping at the time honey? The only thing ive ever killed is a bird be it hit me, couldnt miss that. :?

Ive had several cats, chipmunks, dogs, opossums run out in front of me and usually im not going fast enough to hit them. I guess thats just something you have to care for?

All I have to say is now P.E.T.A is going to go after me when this post hits the newspapers!

Glad to see that you all care about birds, and cats and every frog that jumps accross your path... that is fine and i dont care if you do or not, and I am not asking you to drive with total disreguard for our wildlife... all I am saying is this this poor lady now goes on everyday and gets in her car and says to her self, "that squirrel is alive but my child isnt'" thats it and thats all... I dont ever want to say or feel those words therefore I will not take the chance of flipping over my lifted jeep while tring to avoide a Sciurus Flammifer (thats the scientific name for red squirrel). ;)

Think of this everyone who doesnt see my point of opinion yet... every piece of roadkill you see on the ride in to work, picture it as a save car crash or even a death.

and even better yet! to get back to the turtle story... look at this link... http://www.lakejacksonturtles.org/accident.htm

If you rearend someone, you are at fault for driving too close even if they do stop for an animal out in the middle of nowhere or on a busy street.

Don't risk your life trying to avoid an animal, if it is too risky (swerving into traffic or a hard swerve at high speed), but you should never try to hit the animal, on purpose. A small swerve is the safest thing to do at the last second but I won't swerve hard to avoid a split second dash by an animal. I will break hard with my wheels straight but never with them turned. I will feel really bad if I do hit the animal, but life goes on.

Okay folks....get back on topic.

Here's what I do...because I know exactly what he means....I find it difficult to see beyond a certain point on very dark roads (I live in the country side)....and that certain point is very close and very YIKES!! at times....if I were to adjust the lights I would be blinding most other drivers...not good...anyway, at night I always have my bumper fogs on...one because they look cool, and two...I get a little more light on the road close to me....also, when no other cars are coming towards me I throw on the roof lights....why not....with them I can see a mile down the road....its great....anyway, thought I'd share.

Driving lights are great. I cant even tell when i switch between brights and dims b/c my hellas are so bright. Its not fun driving other cars after driving my jeep.

Best picture i have of them.

Nice lights. Those are also great for knocking laser guns for a loop till you get closer. C&D did a tests on radar/laser detectors. Found out that with lights on and running/driving lights on, it cut lasers down to under half the distance of getting a good lock on you then without the lights. Seems that infrared that comes off our headlights sorta hoses up the laser signal a little. The laser user hunts for a "good spot" to get a reading, hitting your windshield (and the detector) giving you "notice" your being painted. With driving lights on, the target is even smaller therefore, giving you more of a edge to check your speed before he gets a good bead on you. Ever wonder why they don't use laser at night? Unless you shoot the car from a bridge or behind.. it's hard to utilize the distance. You do have to have yourlights aimed just right..

Jeepjeepster- I don't know what state you live in but here in Minnesota it's illegal to use driving lights with your lowbeams (i have never been ticketed but my buddy has with his Hella 500's). You should only use them with your highbeams because they are as bright or brighter (in my case) then highbeams and present a danger to other drivers who won't be able to see after you pass them.

The lasers need a reflective surface to work on (one reason license plates are reflective, the other being so they can be seen at night). When you get a ticket with laser it usually has to hit the license plate to be accurate. Lasers are more accurate and harder to detect then radar...But on the other hand lasers are still fairly rare to see compared to radar as they are still fairly expensive for most departments. I have had a whistler radar/laser detector for 3 years and it picks up everything, usually goes off 3 or 4 times a day (not counting the being near a mall or large grocery store). I have only seen laser 2-4 times in those 3 years.

Well, all that money Michigan diverted from filling potholes went to buying lasers. Lots of use around here. Not uncommon to see 2 in use within 15 miles of each other. Bra's work well too as they do absorb some of the laser's signal. Local and state. Even the Sheriff is in on the master plan... 8)

I live in kentucky, i can get away with anything b/c of the pull i have. I never use them on the hw with other people around. I live up a "holler" so i need the extra lighting for our crappy roads. Plus my GF lives farther up our hollow so I really need them.
