For the last week or so every time I start the CRD I have to pump the fuel by hand. I remember reading a thread about replacing the filter head. Does anyone have any info on this? Thanks in advance for any help......

I replaced mine for the 4Th time last November and I have had not had any problems since. The part has been redesigned along with the connector for the fuel heater, you will have to put the new pig tail on to update the new unit. Here are the part #s Fuel separator 68043089-AA Fuel wiring kit 68043086-AA if you are under warranty the dealer should replace it for you. If not they should give it to you with the fuel filter and just have you return your old one for an even exchange. I have never had to pay anything for this part to be replaced. The whole job should take you no more than 30 minutes. I loosen the two fuel lines first then I take the whole unit off the firewall and then drain the filter. Cut off the old heater connector, wire on the new one melt the tube around the new connector fill the new filter reattach to unit and bolt back up to the mount and you are good to go. Hope this helps.

Could you take a picture of the updated assembly so that we can tell which one we have? Just to clarify, the dealer gave you the new one for free as long as you brought back your old one?

Thanks

Yes the dealer gave me the replacement every time. I actually had some burning at the connector for the heater plug. As for a picture the original looks just like the new design except for the plug for the fuel heater. The black puck looks a little different but not much at a quick glance. I think the biggest difference is the new plug and the way it seals into the heater connection. If yours does not have the new plug pigtailed into the original wiring harness you do not have the latest fuel filter housing. You should be able to take yours off and read the part # to verify which one you have. You can just loosen the two bolts and remove the unit and try to find the part # or call the dealer and ask the parts guy to pull up the new one and see where the # is stamped on the unit then look at yours.

Very early in the life of US CRD's some dealers fixed the air in fuel issue by replacing the fuel lines. Having seen the "O" ring connectors when putting on my lift pump I think most of the air is entering there. Granted the filter is the high point of the system and is where the air collects and without fuel in it the heater connection will melt. I had air in fuel on the ride home from the dealer the day I bought mine new. The fuel lines on a CRD are the same as a gasoline engine that are under pressure not a vacuum like ours stock. Ours stock are under a vacuum and diesel is heavier to lift then gasoline. Doomed to leak

My two cents :?

All they are going to do is turn it in under warranty. My heater connector actually started to burn so I had to unplug it. They did not even question it.
