inMotion Tune

Well after reading the post of the 35+ mpg gotten by one memeber with the inMotion tune my ears perked up. I was wondering what all is involved with the inMotion tune? From what I gather, you send in your ECM and they reprogram it to you liking? I also see that they will clone an ECM for you to "switch" the two as you please can anyone confirm this. Additionally, if I did the inMotion tune I would be interested in the clone option with possibly a new ECM so could anyone provide a list price for a new ECM to see if this option is somewhat cost effective without scouring various junk yards to find a used ECM. Any light that someone can shed on the inMotion tunning would be appreciated as I don't know all that much.

sent mine over night in an envelope (17.50) on a tuesday it was returned on thursday and installed that day... still no trans to move the truck though :evil:

the involvement:
pay on line
take it out and ship it via USPS overnight in their biggest envelope (it fits)
wait two days for it to return
install it and run 'em

removal:
disconnect battery remove the 4 8mm bolts unhook the wiring harness.

I didn't disconnect the battery.

I don't know about anyone else, but there was one of the four 8mm nuts hiding under the wiring harness that was difficult to get a wrench on. Still, the process was relatively painless and easy.

Can Inmotion take you back to pre F37?
Can you use the Inmotion and a Predator chip as well?
Has anyone done that?
I'm seriously considering this mod too.

yeah one of mine was hidden there too...

i think one should always disconnect the battery when pluggin/unpliggin the ECM... and my tranny was taken out so that is another reason mine is disconnected

You can also borrow their OBD programmer which will allow you to pull the map from your ECM, email it to InMotion, let them change it, then email it back to you where you can then flash your ECM all without removing anything from your vehicle.

That's what I did after the dealer wiped out my tune. I sent in the ECM the first time around, but used the OBD tool the second time. The OBD method is MUCH preferred.

Only downside is it costs some extra money, but to me it's worth it to not have my vehicle down for 3 days.

glaspak845, i honestly don't see the point in cloning another ecu, unless you have a problem with down time, witch can be avoided FOR FREE by using the loaner tool. (with a deposit)

Your never going to take the in motion ecu out of your jeep anyway.

As far as not unplugging the batt goes, ya'll are crazy. Disco that freeking thing. it does not take much to hurt that stuff.

I work on pc's all the time and i once forgot to disco a psu and while i was inserting a video card into an agp bus (years ago) the freeking computer came on (after sparks from the bus and card) so there you go.

NJCRD, NO in motion can not pre f37 you. If the tcm crys uncle, the ecu backs out or the tcm wont grab a deeper gear and let you put it down, it wallows out into a lower gear (sequentially) and goes for rpm.

That said, you dont have to get on it and it gets rid of the holes up to about 40 mph, you can light feather it and get up to about 40 w/o crossing 2k (yes you may be able to do that now but not at reasonable speed. for instance i easily get to about 40 w/o going over 1600 i can even do it lower (slower) You cant do that with the stock tune (as far as i remember)

also passing in fith (really sixth) gear is super super easy, you dont have to ds to accelerate, or hold extreme grades. Obviously you need more than just the tune to get the best performance, but that's the first place i'd start. And yeah you may or may not detonate your TC but that was probably going to happen anyway. I've got 30k with in motion and stock (afaik) tc, and i'm looking forward to the day it lets go.

if your thinking about in motion, get the in motion. If your thinking about a fooler box, get the in motion. if your even thinking about thinking about it, just get it. It's a significant difference.

The fact that your even talking about, is evidence enough that you will like it, no questions asked.

Yes you can stack, no it's not drivable (gmtd did this and limped, i think?)
The remap is significantly more advanced than the fooler box, and it's RETARD easy to wire. and it's not detectable.

seriously considering in motion = you should have already ordered it

2K deposit... then you get all but 50 of it back...

they also have a thing that they can put 3 different tunes on and you can up load at any time... they send you a way to read all your info... you send it back and pay for the tunes you want... base price with no tune is 700 i think... then you pay for all the tunes seperately

send them your ecu = $367.50
they send their computer = 400+shipping of the computer back
the tuning dealy with 3 tunes = starts at 950 i think

i talked with them at length and the 3rd option was not even in my price range... i would consider that one if i had like 2 or 3 cars that i had them tune.. and i am not affiliated with them at all

I got it and I love it. But beware with stage II some guys have pushed the TC lockup clutch too far. I did, and had to put in a Suncoast with the other goodies. But I really like it. Fun to drive.
MPG talk is all dirty tak. 35MPG, never got it. First tank 17, second tank 20. Working on doing more testing after the thrill is gone. It's just fun to drive now. I'll report back in a month or so with MPG readings. I realize that I am driving harder than usual until the novelty wears off. Kinda like a new GF!

I called up Inmotion to find out some more info and I asked them about the egr. I mentioned that I was running the orm and he said that running without the sensor plugged can be detrimental to the engine, is this right? Do I then need the SEGR plus the inmotion tune to limit the egr function? Also he mentioned that the egr was still functioning with the orm I was just screwing with the engine's ability to detect air flow. I'm confused?

I see the Eco Tune and the Stage 2.
Is the Eco giving the 35mpg? How much fuel mileage do I lose with the stage 2 as I am always after more power.
The custom tune I'm curious about but wouldn't want to start hurting internals.

Does he understand diesel, and that doing the ORM won't make the engine run "lean"? Or "rich"?

If I remember correctly the people with the 05 models get better MPGs than the people with the 06. I don't know why they do but it seems they do. I had an 06 and the best MPG I got with it was 25.5 and that was with the SEGR I was getting 23.5 without the SEGR in summer and 21.5 in the winter. It might have something to do with the traction control system on the 06 but I would not expect any 06 to get 35 MPG no matter what tune you had on it.

While I'm pleased with the Inmotion reflash, be careful with what he says about anything else. I ordered the SEGR kit through him after he told me that any experienced mechanic could install it in a "half an hour." BS. I pick up my Jeep tomorrow with the SEGR professionally installed. That bag of resistors, chips, board, etc. could not be assembled/installed in a half an hour by someone who did it 40 hours a week for a living.

The reason to do the SEGR vs. ORM is that something really needing attention could not alert you with a CEL.
