The pic does look like I saw it somewhere before. Maybe 4WD & Off Road Mag as was mentioned. I don't think it was anyone on here that I recall anyway.

Looks like the Renne roof lights made it ok.......

4 Wheel and Off Road November 2003 to be exact

Dave is his first name, from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada
crossing over from Walsh to Banting Lake.First tow truck couldn't get it out, two days later another tow truck driver got it out. Was in there for three days 30 degrees below zero weather. It was a write off , brand new 2003 Renegade

Just happened across the magazine tonight out in the garage

Did it get stuck in the ice? I've been in water that deep and drove right through it.

But have you ever been driving across a frozen pond or creek and fell through?

Believe it or not this not an uncommon thing up North. There are companies that specialize in extracting vehicles from the icy waters. Take a look at 'Dirty Jobs' - epsiode 84 - Ice Salvage Crew. There are ice highways like in Fort McMurray, AB, that are constantly checked to prevent ice mishaps.

Unless you have a sticker that says 'ice breaker' on the side you can not just drive through a sheet of thick ice.
