what kind of programming or customization can you do?

Look in your owners manual for features and instructions -- headlights-off delay, lights and horn configuration w/ remote lock, auto door lock/unlock configuration, seatbelt chime on/off, etc.

That stuff I saw. Any way to fix the open door chimes. When I open the passenger side front door, all three other doors display as open. When I start the engine with the R rear passenger door open, it stays displayed as open even after it closes. I have to kill the engine and re0start to clear the message. Anybody else experience this?

mine works exactly the same way. you need one from an o4 or later kj to have everything work properly.

Its beyond annoying. And every EVIC from an '04 KJ on ebay is going at 200+ bucks. Its no longer such a cheap upgrasde if you want it to work perfectly.

Take your Jeep to the dealer and have the thing reset. It cost me 30 bucks and now I don't have that problem any more. Its called being "flashed".

Post subject: Wrangler mirror with compass and temp?
PostPosted: Fri Jan 20, 2006 9:52 am
What about the rear view mirror from the newer Wranglers ('04-'06 that I've observed) that have the temperature and compass in them. That's all I want and I know I already have the temperature sensor on my front grill. How do I install that and wire it correctly? Is there already a temperature wire going up to the spot of where there would have been an EVIC display?

I installed one of those mirrors in my 04 Wrangler. Even in the Wrangler the harness does not run up to the mirror, the mirror came with a Harness that ran acrooss the Windshield header, down the passenger side pillar nad over to an existing connector under the defroster vent.

The Liberty is sending the Temperature, and other data, to the EVIC on a one wire feed from the On Board Computer. I don't think the Wrangler Mirror is designed to handle that data stream. i suspect it is designed to be connected directly tot he temperature sensor, but I could be wrong.

The Autodim mirrors need a "switched" hot and ground source. They also need a dedicated wire pair to an outside air sensor. They cannot receive any of the PCI data stream that caries temp. info. You'll have to make up a small wire harness to accomplish this; it's not technically difficult; perhaps a little time consuming. 8)

I'd like to install an EVIC in my 2006 CRD, but after reading this thread, I have to admit that it's clear as mud to me if this can be done... :)

I'm glad you revived this post. I was just about to buy an EVIC from an 02 GC for my 04 Sport. Glad I didn't. The two major things I want out of this thing are the compass and the temperature. Every thing else I could take or leave. Don't get me wrong, they'd be a nice bonus, but the no-temp thing is a deal breaker for me.

I see the discussion on this died around 05. Since the 04+ has the temp sensor already installed, has anyone tried or found a way to grab the temp signal before the ecu makes it unreadable by the EVIC?

I'm kinda sad about this. 99-04 EVICs out of GCs are cheap, dime a dozen (relatively speaking). Finding one for an 04+ Liberty exclusively seems to be a little more of a challenge.

Ditto. I'm in the same boat with my 2006 KJ. :(

This will clear the mud a bit for you I hope:

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Jeep_Liber ... d_Consoles

Sorry to hear you guys can't add the cheap EVICs :(

I paid $300 for my unit, which is relatively cheap. Half price of new from a dealer.

I made the "error" of installing an GC "02 overhead in my "05 CRD. It's a tight fit (messy!) and here's my status:
-The menu/setup works
-average MPG works
-distance to empty works
-compass, Homelink works

NOT WORKING: temperature (as described by other folks) and instant MPG

Have mixed feelings if it was worth it... although for the price I got an Homelink, an autodim mirror, and I always left it in average MPG mode.
My wife wanted the external temperature  bummer

Hi guys,

I have a 2006 CRD and I would like to install an EVIC. I recently scored what I believe is the correct EVIC for this vehicle (56010520AE) which should make this easy, right?

First, let me preface all this by saying this is my wife's daily driver, and if I cut a big hole in the headliner and cannot get the EVIC in there, it will be an epic fail.

Here's some pictures of what I have to work with.

The opening for the overhead light assembly appears to be shaped differently than the one on this page from LibertyKJ. On that page, it looks like there are metal clips in the dome light assembly that plug into holes in a black plastic housing in the roof. On my 2006 KJ, there is no black plastic anything, and the overhead light has a different clip configuration that just hangs it off the headliner material itself. The metal clips on the EVIC I bought appear to match the metal clips used on LibertyKJ's dome light, but not my dome light.

More troubling is the fact that when I shove my hand forward in the headliner cavity to where I think the forward screw hole would be, all I feel is smooth sheet metal. There's nothing resembling any kind of plastic bracket or any sort of mounting hardware that I can tell. Based on this, I am very hesitant to cut a big hole until I know what I am dealing with.

Can anyone help me sort this out? :( Detailed, clear pictures of your EVICs and mounting spaces would help me get an idea of what's going on with my 2006 KJ.

Thanks in advance!

- Chris

Here are two links that are worth the read:

http://alucinari.net/jeep/kj/evic_install/
(This is a link of an individual's install)

http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25616
(A whole 12+ pages of good info on the installation of an EVIC)

I used the info on these links, and contributed to the second link.

I have a 2006 CRD that I successfully installed an EVIC out of an
05 Liberty.

Follow the advice above, and make sure you TRY IT while it's sitting on the seat!!!
Connect the 4 wires to the OBD II connector, and check every option. If they all work and you are happy then take a big breathe and start the cutting :-)

Mine as I said doesn't look very good, but its going to stay now!

Chris,

Don't panic. You're missing the plastic mounting bracket for the EVIC. It was left off the later model units. You can get it from your dealer and glue or use double sided tape to put it in place. Then the clips and the screw from the EVIC will have a mounting point.

Simple enough!

If you need the part # for the plastic piece, i can get it for you along with pics, they were no longer put in by the factory from 05 and up. i got mine from the dealership i think for about $40, you will have to remove the front of the headliner to install the plastic piece because if you already cut the hole the plastic piece should be larger the the hole otherwise you made your hole too big. The plastic piece just tapes to your roof and then i belive the evic snaps onto it for a nice clean install.
