Just a heads up they'll probably move this to the electronics section ;)

that's where mine is, screwed to the console

still screwin around with the power wiring trying to get rid of ignition noise

Image

here's where my coax comes in through the back window

Image

there's where my antenna's mounted

how high does your's stick up from the "base" of the center console, it looked like mine would be too high to look any good.

I was also notified that cutting that safety panel might void my insurance in a crash :( so im not decided yet.

basically what i did was put the coax in the back of the radio, put the mounting bracket on the radio, and held it against the console until there was adequate clearance for the termination end of the coax, didn't want to stress it too much, then opened the glove box and adjusted the placement so that the glove box would open without hitting the radio. Where it is allows full opening of the glove box and full range of motion on the passenger seat

it sticks up from the level face of the center console about an inch or so which makes getting to the buttons and being able to see the meter while driving easy enough

I do believe the Dx979 is a little bigger than your cobra as well, not by much but slightly bigger

one way to find out is to hold it against the console and see!

i've used AM about as much as i have SSB, kind of nice to have access to both

but on trails with your buds you usually end up using something simple like 4, 16, 36, 38 or 40 AM

I forgot in my other post, but I caught skip from out your way Proff on 38 LSB called by 779 Charlie in Perth

yeah the guy i bought it from gave me a great deal and told me to come back once i have everything installed so he can tune it for me and stuff. 145 for the 3' firestik, the wire, mount and the CB. gonna get the PA speaker at a later date so i can yell at the slow VA drivers.

i spent almost twice that just for my radio  sounds like a pretty good deal ya got although you may want to swap the coax out for some firestik firering or somethin later on, not sure how well that coax ya got is going to be able to shield from the fuel pump, but i guess we'll find out!

maybe once ya get everything hooked up i'll skip you a wave :)

Hey Inc, I don't know much about CB's, but what I do know is that if you don't have a strong enough ground, then you will get ignition noise. A least its that way with car stereos. Try grounding to the frame, hopefully that will work.

I don't get any noise in mine.

my ignition noise is pretty much gone after putting in new coils, it's still got a slight whine but that's a combination of conductive interference and RFI from the alternator, motorola makes a rfi choke to put on the alt and i still have to put the resistors on my tail stop lights and finish doing the grounding

i've checked with my other radio and a bulk of the issue is simply that my 979 is tuned to be very sensitive - my RF gain at 50% is about where my other radios' RF gain is at 90% so it takes quite a bit more grounding and RFI chasing to clean it up at high gain

it's a work in progress
