It was time to replace another glow plug on my tractor this weekend and I’ve been dreading this project. Reason being, there’s only 3 GP’s that are semi easy to get to and of those, I’d already replaced one. But wouldn’t ya know it, after testing those three (From engine front, 1, 2 & 4) the one that needed to be replaced was the one hiding directly behind the intake elbow….. so I figured it was a good time to remove the FCV and Elbow for a good cleaning.

The nastiness that I found……

I shouldn’t be surprised, 59K on the clock, 27K of that before I bought her. Probably 30K with no Provent, and 40K with the MAF plugged in.

This was more then enough motivation to get me moving on installing my SEGR kit that I’ve had sitting around for why to long.

I've got nearly 50,000 miles on mine, and have never had to change a glow plug. I don't even see anything in my maintenance schedule about changing the glow plugs on any kind of regular basis. Am I mistaken?

Linewarbr, its not a maintenance issue, the glow plugs cracked and needed to be replaced. I was getting a check engine light, codes were P1263 for #2 and P1265 for #3. Both the failed GP's had cracks down the middle of the tips.

So if you're code free, then you don't need to worry about it :D

Aw... That's not very bad at all. You should see what happens in some of the TDI VWs.

X2  At 60k and agai at 120k my x 99.5 tdi jetta, now my son's was half clogged. But it does depend on what type of driving it was to some extent. I suspect mine is like the one pictured here at 26k.
