Caution: hardcore 4wheelers stop reading now as this mod doesn't add any off-road prowess.

Back when I custom ordered my KK back in early January, I negotiated a bunch of dealer installed modifications as part of package. This included dealer installed items like the front grille guard, the partial dechroming, the rear park sense system and then loose parts like slush mats, locking gas cap, cargo area liners, etc. One of the items I had negotiated as part of the package was for the dealer to install Mopar's DVD Head Rests -- which they had never done before (like pretty much most of the other stuff I had them do to my KK). In late February once my KK came in, they performed most all the other modfications, but the DVD Head Rests were on backorder from Mopar's supplier with no known delivery date so I went ahead and took possession of my KK with written documentation that they'd still install the DVD Head Rests at the discounted pricing once they arrived. Once the DVD Head Rests did arrive, I had the dealer take them and get them recovered in matching material and thread piping to match my interior.

After that was done, then I made arrangements to get the DVD Head Rests installed in my KK back in early April. I didn't post anything then as I wasn't done with this mod. I then went to the same upholstery shop to have some covers made from the same material and thread piping that wrap-over the head rests and cover up the DVD screens. I wanted this mostly to keep the DVD Head Rests generally out of sight (and thus less likely a vandalism target) as well as to help protect the screens. So far, I only use these when I'm taking my niece and nephew somewhere for very long. They love them. Ok, enough typing, here's some photos:

And with the matching covers I had made (twice since the first set of covers that were made in late April were unacceptable):

I went with Mopar's DVD Head Rests (Item 2 on page 6 of 8 of the 09 Jeep Liberty Accessories Catalog, also available here or at your local Jeep dealer) as I plan to keep my KK quite a long time as I have my other vehicles and may wind up purchasing the extended warranty coverage. I'd rather be able to push on Chrysler's warranty with all the electronic stuff in vehicles nowadays than save a little now and then have to repair/replace at my own expense every so many years. In my other vehicles, I've had to replace multiple CD head units, aftermarket alarm components, etc. so electronics have not proven to me to be the most rugged stuff in vehicles.

The DVD Head Rests are pretty cool (for my niece and nephew). Each can run independently. You pull it out away from the head rest, insert a DVD (or music CD to play), turn it on, turn on the infrared wireless head set and hit play. There are 2 wireless headsets and since they operate on infrared (which is line of sight like most TV remotes), you don't have any intereference with other electronics or the other DVD Head Rest. There is also a remote that can control the units. Each unit also has an A/V input so it can receive a signal from another source such as the other DVD Head Rest. So at times my niece and nephew can watch something totally different or be watching the exact same thing. The system is also wired into the "aux" jack on my uConnect/myGig (RER) head unit so if I want, I can play audio through the Liberty's sound system.

Although not as radical as Digger's Line-X'd exterior, thought I still share a little info on a not-so-common option for your KK. In my opinion, certainly worth considering if you're like me and you're trying to strike a tricky balance between daily driver comfort and features, family needs, practicality and off-road versatility and capability.

Looks really nice. I created a solution for my KK and other vehicles using regular portable DVD players that swivel and fold flat. This was created for my daughter. Not as nice as the built in headrest, but a good solution otherwise for those with portable DVD players already.

Check it out if you guys are interested. I can post more pics if anyone wants.

It's a good idea ... I like a cleaner look of installing the TVs into the headrests. Also less chance of theft if they are stuck into your headrests. With that if you leave then up anyone can just smash and grab.

True...I like the cleaner look to..just can't afford it. Luckily we made it so it is easy to take the DVD player off. We do this anytime we get out of the car on a trip...just take it down (the DVD player), not the ProSnap.
