i've been too busy to update on my friends wrangler, ya know the guy that sprayed WD40 all up in his clutch
I pulled his tranny out last saturday, the clutch was worn, slightly crystallized but otherwise hadn't blued the flywheel
what I did find however, was his throw out bearing had seized and flown apart with the bearing face still on the shaft, the ball bearings embedded around the housing and the races were molten but he got lucky and didn't rip the shaft up
so i showed him how to install a new clutch, showed him how it worked etc
going back friday to put the tranny back in since we had to wait for a new pivot stud for the throw out arm
overall assessment, while the wd40 probably wouldn't have been good for the clutch, i doubt he got more than a minimal amount on the clutch. Just enough for it to burn off of the inside of the housing due to heat. And certainly didn't get it back in there far enough to do anything to the throw out bearing which would explain quite a bit why he had thought his clutch had been acting odd for a month or so
I will say one thing though, there's 2 bolts holding in the NV3550's in those 02 wranglers that are a friggin pain
they're something along the lines of an E12 or E14. Needless to say I sent him to the hardware store to get 2 replacements!
