How can I tell if my rear/ front differentials are Limited-slip? I had a Pathfinder that had "LSD" on a stamped chrome plate on it, so that was easy, but I don't see anything on this one.

I have a 2006 with a 12/2005 build date.

Easiest way: jack up the axles and turn one wheel. If the other one turns the same way--> limited slip... opposite way-->open.

Easy here too Your 06 has ESP and there was not a limited slip option available

Even the first 'easy way' may not be conclusive. The clutch pack in the rear of '05s with limited slip tends to lose preload. That means it only is really limited slip under high torque conditions, spinning in the air may not work.

Also a caution, only spin the (lifted both wheels) rear with the t-case in 2WD. I forgot mine was in full time once, torqued down, and the front tires promptly drove the whole car off the jack stands. DOH!

No front axles were limited slip in a KJ. I've often wondered however, if a quadra-drive I front differential from a WJ Dana 30 front will fit in a KJ Dana 30 independent...

Speaking of Diff Oil/Lube, I have found the RedLine, Heavy Shock Proof gear oil to be amazing. I thought I was imagining things, but once it was replaced the truck felt smoother on the highway. It is a full synthetic so you can get some good distance out of it. Just figure I'd share my experience with it since I was impressed with how it felt.

I used the HEAVY SHOCK Proof. Haven't had any issues. Used in the transfer case and in the rear diff. I use it off road every weekend now that it's the summer and have had no problems to report. Look at it this way; anything is better then what it left the factory with. I know everyone has a particular brand that they recommend or like; I’m just letting everyone know my experience with it has been pleasant.

The fluid in the transfer case is very different then what's in the differentials Jeep calls for ATF
