I actualy payed less for it than what the "value" for it was at the time, but becuase of the "high miles" I have depreciated the value.

I asked the bank about using my other vehicles as collateral to cover the rest of the laon after selling the liberty and they refused to do it. They said they have done it in the past and people have less to loss by not finishing paying off the loan when the collateral is on older vehicles or something of that sort. All though my credit score is right around 700 and I have never made a late payment on the jeep they refuse to work with me so I can sell it and get something else. So I will have to just pay on it. the less I drive it the less miles it racks up so in 4years when its paid off it wont have 150,000 miles on ti and may still be worth something. Plus the less I drive it the less likely it is to have more problems as long as I drive ti enought o keep everythiong working properly.

Kinda sad that in "fair" condition, our KJs are only about 3 grand apart in book value

That whole idea of a bank making you keep your car until it is paid off just seems immoral to me. I'm also from Canada, so we do things a little different here.

I called a couple places about refinancing it today to get the payment down a little lower so it isnt as costly. But even still I dont plan to drive it much.

so next time dont buy brand new... i have 4 cars... my jeep which it is a dd, a 07 trail blazer which the other half drives, a 77 corvette, and a 79 waggoner... i choose all the vehicals because of thier rep... if somthing was wrong with the trail blazer and warrenty didnt cover it... that to me is a sign to get rid of it and make the other half drive the waggoneer...lol...corvette is mine... just dont buy brand new because you'll lose ur stupid on it... unless u pay cash..

That depends. For those of us that got our Jeeps at 0% interest, buying used made little sense. I'm not going to pay interest on a non-warrantied vehicle for $15,000 which is probably someone elses problem, as opposed to the new, full warranty vehicle for the straight negotiated price. Interest will put you close to the dealer price, and unless the warranty transfers, you're living on borrowed time.

Buying used doesn't tell you how the previous owner drove it or treated it.. I got 0% financing after military and other discounts along with a trade-in. I spent no cash down out of pocket. The vehicle was brand new and no worries of some jerk leaving some buds behind under the seats/stuck under trimming or treating the vehicle wrong. I'll take new. Value only means something if you plan to sell it before its time. I follow the Paul Mason rule (you youngsters need to google that).

Good news is I took it out today to hual the camera crew of a fairly important offroad magazine around the local park I help out at and it survived, and the traction control even decided to work.

I was just curious as to whether it was the KJ that is in such rusty condidtion that you can't put a bumper on it or is it one of those wonder XJ's? (Ducking) 8)

Yes

Because XJs drove like 200,000mile K cars when they were brand new. And XJs are junk. the KJ is not. They built a superior Jeep, and something that doesn't suck.

What is your problem with IFS?

coming from a range rover with a SFA, I had no issues with the amount of lift because of there were NO CVS!!!

but the problem was the steering, you have to extend the pt arm, so yes, isf is good feeling to the ride, but the whole purpose of a sfa was its more of a road feeling axle

So you'd rather have a front driveshaft let go and knock a hole in the transmission?

Or maybe some leaky-arsed axles, and an anemic tiny V8, and maybe some electrical gremlins...

My Range Rover was a $1500 month vehicle, I honestly think you are the first person on here to have that many problems with your liberty :( correct me if i'm wrong, brings a tear to my eye cause I love this Jeep

I have ALOT of problems with my KJ. I have been dealing with a multi misfire. Part after, diag after diag with no resolution. Systems do not change or get better. it remains the same. I am actually getting really sick of it. I maitain my KJ very well and it still seems to give me problems. But I have to say a few problem KJ's out of 1 million to me is not that bad. LOL
I am dealing with my problems and working it out. One day I will figure out the problem and put it all be hind me. At the end, I LOVE MY KJ!

Now if you want a problem vehicle, get an 02 Olds Bravda....it had a 2 recalls a month, ours was 3 years old with 52k on it, and the trans was starting to fail..... :?

Wife's 2002 Sport. Daily driven concrete warrior. No real stop and go as we live in the skirts and her commute to her job at the mall is all hwy at about 50mph. Approximately 20 miles per day.

Since I am a manager at an auto parts store premium parts are all it sees. Royal Purple in all boxes except the engine which was SynPower until about 80k and now MaxLife. Mopar filters except K&N drop in. E3 plugs. Premium everything. That said...

Front Strut mounts which inspired the only mod - 2.5" leveling kit
LBJs under recall
Rack & pinion
Both axles and left hub assembly
Steering Column wiring harness
Sunroof drains (filling it up with water)
Radiator
Left cylinder head (under warranty)
now the AC clutch is going (noise and burnt clutch smell)
The mystery rear wiper problem that I have a post about

She thought it was cute but we both agree - we'd take her 96 Sportage back in a heartbeat if this thing could go away.
As soon as it's paid for...

Oh yeah and 16city/20hwy.. yeah right

No doubt the worst car I've ever had the bank own. She says a Taurus she had before we met.

Side note
The beast on the right has 218k and runs like champ

The guys is probably long gone, but I have to say one thing. Please don't bash a model because you got a lemon. That is all.

We all have our own opinions and definitions but..
I'm inclined to believe if there are patterns to the problems, such as the regulators or ball joints or steering rack mount bushings it's not a lemon but a design flaw.
What I heard was that Daimler intended to replace the Cherokee with it and when that was ruled out for whatever reason they decided to shave cost and make it more of an entry level vehicle, and that in the process they built weaknesses into it. I'm no expert on the mechanics or the history of the breed, but I AM an expert on auto parts and some stuff I sell a LOT of. I also spend 50 hours a week interacting with repair shops because that is my job and they tend to have strong opinions to support the designed weakness theory.

It's not bashing if there are specific examples to unending problems.

"This is a piece of junk" is bashing.
"These are the problems I've personally had with a PAMPERED version of this vehicle" is contributing info.
