This is a breakdown of how i mounted lights to my side mirrors, i havent seen this done yet.. so im thinking im gonna take credit for bein the first until someone kindly corrects me : )

- I started by removing the glass from the side mirror.
- Then drilled a small hole in the top of the side mirror mount plastic cap piece, then i used a small screwdriver to pop the plastic cap out.
- Once the cap was out of the way i unscrewed the three screws keeping the side mirror mounted to the base.
- I then proceeded to notch a grove going down one side of the inner base
ImageImage
- I notched out a section all the way to the bottom of the mount to allow for the relocation of the side mirror electrical wires.
ImageImage
- After i notched out a section to relocate the wires i put the base back in its position.
ImageImage
- Then i reset the mirror on the base and notched out a small plastic hump to allow for the wires to be rerouted
- And i notched out the final top section to allow for the wires to be places out of the main channel
ImageImage
ImageImage
- Then i re-connected the mirror wires and reinstalled the mirror glass
- The lights are now ready to be put in place.
- I used 1/2"x6" carriage screws to mount the lights to the side mirror.
- I re-inserted the top cap
- I drilled a hole in the bottom of the side mirror base to allow for the carriage screw to fall all the way threw.
ImageImage
- I mounted the lights as shown and proceeded to follow basic knowledge of "righty tighty, lefty loosy" to tighten the nut to the bottom of the base.
ImageImage
ImageImage
- I then proceeded to work on running the wires through the side mirror
- I removed the door panel and disconnected all wires
- I removed the three nuts holding the side mirrors in place.
ImageImage
ImageImage
ImageImage
- I then drilled a hole in the side of the side mirror mounting plate
ImageImage
- I set the rubber grommet in place then ran the wires through the hole
ImageImage
- I re-installed the side mirrors to the door and put the door panels back in place
ImageImage

I obviously dont know for certain if im the only kJ with side mirror mounted offroad lights, so if anyone else has them let me know... until then im takin credit for this idea. I hope this post is helpful. thank you for checkin it out.

How did you get the glass off? I had my LED's installed on them for the fire dept but I fished the wire through it in fear of braking the glass.

thanks

Do your mirrors still fold in?

That's what I was going to ask. Seems like you're out for the folding mirror business. Cool idea though.

First, I definitly lost the benifit of folding mirrors but i usually stay further than 12" from trees anyway so i figured it was worth the sacrifice..

Second, i popped the mirror off by pushing one side in all the way to allow for my fingers to slip behind the mirror.. then i just pulled it off (takes some force) theres four plastic lookin arms that hold the mirror in place but they just pop in and out.

I figured i wasnt the first with the idea, i just hadnt seen a "how-to" yet, or any pics on cardomain so i figured id give it a shot. i had a YJ before my KJ and i had the windshield mounted lights and loved the look. But as most things go with Jeep, just bc they make it for Wranglers doesnt meen they make it for Libertys.. so i improvised.

Very nice job and a great idea! I am not sure if it is legal in all states, so make sure to check local laws before mounting anything on top of your side mirrors..

I looked at doing this 4 years ago, but due to not being able to fold in the mirrors, creating a bad blind spot, chance of breaking the filament in the bulb from opening/closing the door it was not worth it to me.
Now that I have seen it done, glad you like it but still is not something that I would want to do just for a couple of lights.
Maybe some smaller lights but

It does look good. Perhaps some of those police floods on the doors are in order Tom. :)

That' looks great. I think it's a great idea. Is the grommet/flex tight as to not let in any water?

I put mine a little closer in, and they are fog lights instead of driving lights. cause i'm an idiot and didn't think about fog lights only being a flat line of light. i will be changing them soon.

How did you mount these? Just to the plastic cowl? Pics of how you did it would be nice if you have time. Thanks.
