For those of us who have not experienced the dreaded regulator failure, is there any preventative measures that might prolong their life? I have replaced several regulators on Chrysler and GM products over the years and it seemed their failure could have been attributed to lack of lubrication compared to the replacement. Would it be worthwhile to remove door panel and apply some lithium grease or is there any greasable parts that might help?

I don't think that lubrication is the issue, it is the stress that the "worm" places on the plastic threaded holder that it screws into in the carrier. Look closely at the picture on the first page, and you'll notice that the aluminum window bracket is curved. Picture the window glass itself laying on top of it, as it connects to the carrier in that oval hole with a ball stud and retaining clip. As the carrier travels up and down on it, the place where the "worm" attaches to the carrier bears the weight of the window glass as it shifts forward and back on the curvature of the bracket. That will eventually seperate the cheap plastic - but then again it doesn't take much, I only raised and lowered each of my rear windows maybe 12 - 15 times in the time I've had the Jeep. In the Louisiana heat, you don't lower the windows - you use the A/C. In fact, another user suspected that the heat itself may have been the issue.

Well, I ordered the Steiger kit late on Friday afternoon (3:30 pm Houston time) and received it Monday, and they are located in New York!. That's what I call service!! Install was a breeze and I don't think this part is going to fail like the OEM, it's solid. I checked my left side, which has been replaced also, and it is still the old style. I'm going to order another Steiger kit for it as well, as I know it is only a matter of time before it fails....and it sucks when your on the road when it fails. Thanks for the tip Linewarbr.

No problem. I'm all for supporting those that want to provide solutions for our KJ's, and particularly CRD's. I may have to pull off my right-rear door and check to see if I should go ahead and replace that one too, or at least order the part.

Thanks Linewarber for the great info and link to Steiger, I just ordered a kit for my right rear. My right AND left rear units have already been replaced under warranty, now the right rear has broken again and is currently being held up with duct tape. I can't wait to put an end to this poor design...

NP, grommet. When you receive the kit, there will be a small yellow slip in there that talks about the ball stud angle. If you have a problem with the window popping out of the carrier when you test it after install, refer to that yellow slip. I had to bend mine downward with a pair of pliers, once I figured out what the problem was.

mcinfantry,

Long time no hear. I just posted in the Southern LOST section about a south LA work day, if you're up for some trans/transfer/diff servicing, or any other kind of stuff you may need to get done. I thought about you on Saturday; I was installing my Magnaflow exhaust on the concrete in my garage, and kept saying, "Man I wish I could get this thing up on a lift. . . " :x

I know, I know. . . I just thought it would be easier than it was - a mistake I have made MANY times before.
