A few weeks back I fitted OME Coils all round (928 front and 947 rear) with Rancho shocks to my 05 CRD with ARB Bar on it. I found the front too soft - as everyone else here complains about (ie with the Frankenlift). It really wallowed and bounced around, too much diving under brakes etc. and just wasn't as confidence inspiring on the road as it should have been. The extra weight of the ARB bar sure didn't help matters!

Yesterday I had the OME front springs removed and replaced with the factory coils and the Daystar 1.5inch spacer and the Rocky Road 3/8 inch thick Strut Top plate (Rocky Road Combo lift). The OME rear springs remain as do the Rancho RSX struts all round.

I am happy to report that this set up is vastly superior to the OME springs on the front of a CRD in my opinion (as everyone on the forum said it would be!). My KJ rides much better now than it did before and feels a lot more confident on the road - there's a lot less body roll and not as much dive under brakes. I also picked up 20mm (nearly an inch) of lift over the OME setup.

Measurements after breaking in (arch to lower rim) :

Stock without ARB bar:

Front Average 710mm

After with ARB Bar and OME 928 spring / 947 Spring:

Front Average 710mm

Rear Average 745mm

After with RR Combo and factory spring / 947 Spring:

Front Average 735mm

Rear Average 745mm

The other option for the CRD that I could have fitted of course would have been the Daystar 2.5inch kit with the factory springs - this would give more lift than the kit I fitted, but I wanted the rear higher than the front so it would level out when loaded, and this I achieved perfectly with this setup.

See you on the trails.....(well those of you in Western Australia)
