I've been looking for a DRBIII for a while, and since I will be needing more direct access to the BCM for putting my original engine into my 97 Grand Cherokee... This just doesn't do that. It only lets me look, but not touch in the BCM. Also, I have a specific problem in my tire monitoring system that this doesn't address, so again... I need a DRBIII. Since I will be effectively owning two Liberty CRDs (although one will be 'in drag' by being the grand cherokee) I will have to be able to do a lot more than the average tech, and FAR more than a dealer would allow their service monkey to do.

I like the AE because it lets you monitor real easy while running.

BTW-what did you get for engine oil pressure?

Oil pressure? From before the engine failed, or since I have gotten it back? Before the engine ejected the #1 cylinder, I measured the oil pressure at like 50psi at idle. Since the new engine, I haven't monitored the pressure directly. At the first oil change, I will be installing a secondary pressure sensor for my own gauge. Anything I can monitor directly (EGT and boost currently, Trans temp and oil pressure to come) will be.

I'm currently hooking up sensors and gauges myself, and could use some help on location for sensors.

I haven't figured out the perfect location for a boost tap yet, but I'm leaning toward the body of the FCV - It can be separated from the rest of the intake path, so I can keep crap out from the intake itself while I drill and tap it, and it provides a metal framework for the probe. For the oil pressure, that is MUCH easier - Right where the existing sensor connects.

Its gonna be messy if you try this while the oil is still in the engine, so do an oil change. Directly behind the oil filter, pointing toward the front of the engine is the engine's sensor. Unscrew that, and install a brass 1/8" nipple with a brass "T" section. Thread the engine sensor back in, and add your own on the other open connection. Bingo, dedicated oil pressure. Make sure you use a "electrical remote sensor" kind of gauge, not the cheap ones that you have to run oil into the cockpit for. Imagine if that hose broke. :shock:

Just a note here on mounting.
For reasons unknown, when electrical sensors are mounted on our off road car engines, (turbo gassers, patooie), they seem to fail all the time. (We bench racers have developed a theory, but that’s all it is). However when mounted to the frame and a short hose is used to connect the sensor to where it is supposed to be, we have not had one failure.
I’m sure it has to do with all the extreme vibrations, heat, etc, etc.

Now the CRD diesel has it’s own set of vibrations, so if one wanted to, he could mount the sensor in a “Safe” place. Be sure to run a ground wire from the engine to the sensor if you do this.

TurboTim-I'll keep that trick in mind.

geordi-I'm planning on mounting the Tee for the FS-2500 bypass filter in the OEM oil sensor location and fixing the OEM sensor into that Tee.
So I'm going to need another location to pick up the oil pressure.
Been waiting for an expert in the know to help me out with some info but he hasn't come through yet.
We're going to get started tomorrow with the processor and sensor install so I was hoping for a little help.

BTW-I'm planning on tapping into the top of the intake manifold for the boost. I think this will give the most accurate reading.
Either dill and tap a into an unused boss or drill and tap one of the upright rod pillars with the ball on top that hold the black plastic engine cover.

What do you think?
