I drove my 06 CRD in the morning, everything was normal. Went out in the afternoon and it cranked over maybe 2 times then nothing. I put it on the charger overnite, next morning still no start. Checked battery low voltage about 10 volts. I got a new Optima at Interstate batteries for $165 with more CCA and the jeep started right up. I've never had a battery die like that. It was 3.5 years old.

The old battery must of shorted out.

Pretty typical for the under-speced Red Tops which DCX put in these things. They look just like the RepTops sold at autoparts stores, but were built specially for Chrysler and have different part #s. Mine did the exact same thing when it went bad. The wife left the fuzz buster and XM running and it died overnight. after that it wouldn't hold any kind of charge, no matter what setting I had put the charger on 50 amp 10 or 2.

I've seen this a few times on CRD vehicles, once the battery is completely drained a few times, it just wont hold a strong enough charge to start. It turns into a weak crank that won't start the vehicle, then it dies again....
