Just curious who has used the 110V welders made by Century... (they made the craftsman, snap-on, and some others for a while). I seem to hear that they are decent little boxes that don't tend to break and are pretty reliable.

I found someone selling one with under 40 hours for about $150 locally and might just snatch it up.

is it gas or flux core? I have one but its only flux core and rated for 3/16" but I dont really trust it that thick, IMO your way better off with the Hobart Handler 140 MIG for $400 new

Is yours the 80amp Flux Core? That's actually the one I'm looking at.

How's it do? I'm just trying to get by until I can manage a big combo box...

no mine is the Power-Mate 70, its rated for 20 gauge-3/16", IMO its real good for 1/8" and you can do 3/16" Im just more leery of it especially if it is something structural, if you pre-heat it it will do better and mine hits the duty cycle pretty often, they are only 20% duty cycle

I personally wouldn't bother with the little 110v welders. They may be good for welding sheet metal, but that's about it. I'd opt for a 220v unit that can weld up to 1/4" material. This is the one I currently own and it's been a great welder.

My brother has a Century MIG welder that has to be going on 20 years old now and still welds fine. He bought it at Sam's Club years ago.

the Hobart Handler 140 is rated for 1/4", now will it do it as easy as a 220v? no but it can do it and some people dont have 220v access and the Lincoln 140 is rated for 5/16" but I would still grind the metal down so its nice and clean and I would pre-heat the metal if you are doing 1/4" but they can do it, anything less it will do a great job on

Thanks for the info but I guess it's a moot point now... I found someone selling a Miller 130 with cart, helmet, and argon bottle for $250... can't pass that one up.

You will be happy with the miller. The gas makes welding easy.
