We often use a little brake action via park brake Or foot brake to get the posi to grab. Same principal can also help a heavy foot on throttle driver in an open diff to control wheel spin while wheeling.

Can't you do the old test we did on MB and CJ axles? Jack the rear into the air, rotate a wheel, if they turn the same way it's a posi, opposite ways it's open.

That way should work as well as it will test not only if you have-but if it works. I didn't think MB's cam with posi though...
