it's the same clause you see every time you log securely into any federal computer system. Such as the Air Force Portal, military mypay, virtually every federal computer system. The purpose is to inform people about the protection involved in their systems, essentially what they're saying is "while connected to this system," your computer belongs to the Federal Government. Essentially it does, they're going to monitor all traffic to and from your system while connected, this is to prevent an attack from originating inside a secure federal system. What *cough* other countries have been doing in getting securely into non critical systems, and using them as proxies to hack critical systems where they can't be tracked.

Yes it is an invasion of our privacy and if you want to do something...call your senators and congressmen or women.

tumanator, I'm not so sure it is the same wording, same agreement. At any rate, news was saying late yesterday that the thing has been changed (although it doesn't state that they won't look through the backside of your computer). Apparently this only applied to the auto dealerships log-in for the c4c program.
As far as monitoring goes, everything that piddles through the Internet manages to route through the basement of fortress Monroe anyway, for swell intel-parsing and analysis. I got nuttin' to hide, and hardly nuttin' to steal anyway.

all internet traffic that traverses the cloud in the US is passed across DA's which have certain sets of complicated signatures installed so whether or not you click yes to some agreement you're wiretapped so to speak

for instance RIAA as a gov't entity uses this method in part to catch and prosecute software pirates

where they typically run into issues is forcing ISPs to give up the IP owner records or at least they used to, now the ISP's just buckle and give them and any other gov't associated agency anything they want

those same DA's dump daily records and logs to a number of gov't sifted data warehouses which are ran across a second set of signatures prior to being correlated with other matching origin reports or discarded

in other words, big brother has big ears, if you want privacy encrypt your chats, spoof your mac address anytime you steal wifi and use various other non-habited non-repetitive behaviors - but all that effort is more headache than it's worth. especially if you're not in the habit of creating net traffic that they'ed be interested in ;)

if ya want privacy submerge all your electronics in water and put on a guillie suit

Back on topic.... I just found out my old 1991 Ford Ranger is up for sale again. I could buy it back for 2 grand (probably less) and turn it in for cash for clunkers on one of those new good gas mileage cars. If only I could afford another car payment though. If anyone relatively close is interested I know where you can get a running Ranger for 2 and turn it in for 4 though.

Not the same at all. Nowhere in your post does it specifically say that the US government now owns your computer, unlike what was in the CARS agreement, which stated they owned your computer and all the data on it. "watch the video again" :?

won't help. you need to have owned and had registered the trade in vehicle for 1 calendar year before being eligible for CARS.

One of 2 things is happening here...
either Tumanator is/has an Auto Dealership login and is accessing and correctly quoting the system, in which case the video is incorrect.
Or else Tumanator has not logged into the CARS program with a dealership login, in which case he is wrong.
Inquiring minds remain curious.

Ok then back off topic....next time I'll learn and just keep my mouth shut

-Communications using, or data stored on, this IS are not private, are subject to routine monitoring,
interception, and search, and may be disclosed or used for any USG authorized purpose.

~This whole statement was a copy and paste from an connection to a non-secured public access Federal Network System. Meaning None of the information is classified and it can be accessed by the public, hence why my posting this statement here is legal.

This states that by using this communication device (your IS or independent system aka Your computer) that your IS (aka your computer) is not private, it is subject to routine monitoring (even after you've disconnected) and by connecting, you computer can be searched or seized by the USG (United States Government) for any authorized purpose. (Very General statement as to what is authorized, being rules can be changed and your subject to these new rules or authorizations)

~However even the federal government doesn't have the capability or the manpower to collect every packet of information traversing every computer system that connects to all of their networks. Hence they duplicate random packets in transit and pile them all together from many different systems and use phishing filters to file through them for specific words or characters. If your not doing anything wrong you won't be in trouble regardless of if you click the accept button or not. And I'm sure TBJ is right, they really don't care about your pirated music, as long as your not conspiring against the government with folk rock music.

Oh snap... I forgot about that......however i did re-register it's license only one week before I bought my jeep last year. Technically that registration should still be good.....makes me curious if I could fool the system.

Tumanator, maybe its just the wording but what you have shown nowhere state the your computer becomes "property of" unlike it does on the CARS login. Probably take a room full of lawyers to get this settled! We can bump heads all day on wording but I would rather talk Jeeps. Now, what size lift should I put on my new LJ?
