Fairbanks Morse makes an OP engine with two cranks used on Navy Ships and Generators, this one has only one crankshaft, neat:

Very cool engine and the design looks to be very simple and light yet could be very strong. I am shocked its taking this long to come up with it.

I would think subaru could make a car engine out of it. I like their boxer engines I have owned two subarus.

I would like one of the military omnivorous motors. Those things aren't gas or diesel... They are "if it is a flammable liquid, it's fuel" kinda thing. They can burn anything from gas, diesel, J8, Avgas, veggie oil, probably even bunker fuel from a ship.

Oh, and emissions? HAH! Our military burns OCEANS of fuel every year, and probably is the single biggest non-factory contributor to air pollution that the US has. But good luck convincing Nancy Pel-pain-in-the-arse-osi about it. Its all those evil diesel cars and trucks that make America's economy run, and are orders of magnitude cleaner already than even 15 years ago.

Being a Military History Buff, the only Subaru I want is the plane they made in WWII, with the Subaru Company Logo on the tail next to the Japaneses Rising Sun.
This WWII Subaru would take off only once and crash land. Therefore the only ones left would be the ones that never took off making it very rare and valuable.
I would donate it to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum near Dulles Air Port.

Kamikaze they were.
Mitsubishi made the Zeros, do a power dive pull up, the wings snap off.
Weren't our WWII ACEs smart?

The aces were, certainly. But the Japanese aces had an equally smart bunch - Pull into a steep climb and hope the Allied pilot follows. Continue into an overhead loop, while the Allied stalls b/c his plane didn't have the same power. He falls into a spin while the Zero continues over, and the sites line up.

Lots of our pilots died that way, until the Lightning (IIRC) was introduced. That one had LOTS more power and could follow the Zero through the loop. Being faster as well, it evened things up a LOT for us.

Well - this went off track fast - I liked the original diesel engine (but hey I liked 2 stroke motorcycles too)

as to the Zero - yes it climbed faster - because they decided not to put any armor in it. Great horsepower to weight ratio.
but the P40's in China found ways to fight them (you're heavier and you can out dive them)
the F4 wildcats had a lot of problems with them but when the Hellcats F6's came on line - the Zero's were out matched.

it may have taken the P38 to outclimb them - but they were losing long before.

we can re-title this the WWII thread
