I can't see any two-stroke diesel meeting emissions.

EMD makes diesel locomotives with 16 cylinder 2-stroke engines.
These make 4300 HP and still meet EPA regs.

Those FM opposed piston, twin crankshaft engines were once used for
railroad opperations in the 40s and 50s. They didnt work very well though.
Apparently these engines were better suited for stationary power generation
and marine applications.
A neat design though. Two cranks, pistions moving towards each other,
no camshafts, and no valves.

Who wouldn't want a 900+HP AWD Subaru.

I wouldn't.

More than enough issues with a 500whp Subaru, can only imagine what it would be like pushing nearly twice that. Seen piston slap???

I meant CARB passenger vehicle emissions.

Not sure you would ever see this in a car because, among other reasons, the form factor. I know that subaru thought long and hard about how to accommodate the longer stroke of a diesel and still have it fit between the wheels. That thing has got to be 5' across at least. That's too wide even hanging off the back of a wide body Porsche 911...
