For $213 I definitely want to be put down for a pair. They look like they're coming out more or less on my birthday, so I should be able to afford 'em (I hate what college has done to my bank account :? ) They look real nice, can't wait for them to ship.

EDIT: I forgot to ask, will you include something like a drilling template to help line up the holes we'll have to drill, or will we need to cut one out of cardboard or something?

For $213 who cares about a template? Thats about $70 less then AllJ's or putting you $70 closer to say new tires or a locker or well you get the point. $213 for what appears to be great quality and a manufacturer that WILL ACTUALLY TALK TO YOU!!! Look what Rock Lizard has done with the bumpers... hand made and built right the way we want them! That's service.

The sliders will have templates for the pinch seam. Wouldn't make sense to put all that time and effort into a design then not make something as simple as a template. :D

For me, the shipping savings is also a huge factor. If RL can have his ready and to me by Moab, I will definitely try them out. If not, I may have to get the AllJ BB's and pay the large shipping or ask nicely to one of the KJ West guys to bring them to Moab so I can install them there.

Good to know! I guess that may be for someone who was doing much more hard-core rock crawling than we could do anyway.

Pardon me for my ignorance, but what and where does the:
1/4" thick Black UV Resistant High Density Polyethylene fit into these?

It covers the bottom of the rails to aid in sliding over rocks. I know some rock buggys use it on their rockers and suspension components for the same reason.

Thanks for educating me JJ. I think I get it, it is like skies. A low friction layer on the bottom - i don't imagine any of your rockcrawler buddies would wax these (LOL)!

Would teflon work better, it has a much lower friction coefficient - for which reason it is used in artificial hip joint etc. Just some thoughts...

How is the PE layer attached to the steel?

The HDPE is a marine grade UHMW-PE, that comes in black, and is UV resistant, so it won't become brittle. This stuff is used on things like ocean liners and the bottom of the blade of those big snow scraper trucks. It will hold up to what we do. Basically, it is cutting board material. The HDPE sliders attach to the bottom with 3/8" counter sunk bolts.

Teflon would just scratch right off...why do you think you aren't suppose to use a metal spatula on teflon pans while making break fast... I imagine a rock would do just as good a job at removing teflon as a spatula would...

Oops, overlooked your question, sorry. I don't have any other pictures right now, but I will get some better quality when I start building.

Just to clear things up, these are shipping bare steel right? That's what the site says, just want to make sure I don't make a fool of myself  . If they do, how well do you think something like Rhino Lining or Line-X would hold up? Would it be a better idea to just paint them and touch up as needed?

And to answer your question, I'd prefer the standard model. My KJ is an 04 (obviously) Sport.

PS: Thanks for spending so much time hanging out here getting our opinions, too.

Yep, shipping bare steel. If you get a "no matter what" warranty, then go for the Line-X stuff, but I have seen rockers with Line-X come right off like an orange peel on the rocks, then you get the same problem like powdercoat; difficult to touch up, and if you don't seal it, moisture gets into the tear, between the steel and coating, and cancerous rust occurs.

I'm going to stick with the Rustoleum Primer and Hammered for my own stuff.

The HDPE is a 2" wide by 1/4" thick strip that bolts to the length of the bottom of the slider rail. It isn't a paint or coating, just a simple bolt on plastic slider plate.
