Couple Easy Questions

Ok so I'm just looking for some recommendations / reviews, and a little general advice on the following.

So it's time for some general maintenance.
* I need some new spark plugs and would like some recommendations from anyone with experience on specific brands / types / ect

* My parking brake pretty much no longer works, I think it's no secret that the liberty brakes pretty much suck. I would like to upgrade my rear brakes and if possible I would prefer not to have to replace the rotors. (I believe the parking brake is loose just cause the rear brakes are worn down, 50k miles on stock pads as far as I know) Of course any other suggestions are welcomed.

1. Autolight Platinums are working well for me

2. I've never had any trouble stopping the KJ, even pulling a few thpousand pounds. Some quality control problems with some calipers, and people leaving the parking brake on while driving will waste the shoes for drum-in-hat parking brakes, but the basic system is dandy on the disc/disc anyway.

If you have rear discs, and haven't wasted your little parking brake shoes, try pulling your parking brake lever up slowly, notch by notch, letting the ratchet system ratchet. I get a better "hold" at a lower parking brake lever angle this way.

If you do a search you will find that 93.672 % recommend the above mentioned Autolites :wink:

Brakes have always worked fine for me as well, parking brake still works great and I have 127,000 on the rears :shock:

1. Always ran basic Champions on my little neon. (same motor as the Libby 2.4) The Plats and other exotic type plugs would just have the coatings burned off and the cost of the extra money. Cheap, basic, Champion plugs always lasted the longest.

2. Pull your wheel off, unbolt the caliper and hang out of the way (not by the brake line) slide off the rear rotor, and check the conditions of your parking brake shoes. If they are good, there is an adjuster between the shoes at the bottom. Open that adjuster a bit if needed. If the shoes are badly worn, replace them as needed, be sure to use a GOOD brake system lube during reassembly.

I bought this jeep used, albeit with good mileage, but used. The person who owned it for me was (sadly for my poor jeep)was a soccer mom. I have no clue if the parking brake was abused but it's got a pretty weak grip, I just took a quick look at the rear pads and they look a little thin so I might just as well replace the rear. I'll also check that adjustment for the parking brake (I knew there was one but didn't know where, on my ford's they've always been about half way back under the frame.

And thanks for the input on the spark plugs, I did try search (like that actually works) and browsed some of the posts but couldn't really find much info.

I have had Autolite Platniums in for almost 20K now and still no problems.. now I do believe JeepinJarhead had some problems with them but I think he found out it was something else I can't remember.. As far as Brakes I would recommend www.powerstop.com they have a really good product from what I hear, I have a friend with an 07 Chevy Pickup that has these brakes on it and they are pretty good I dont know how much he paid for them though..

the autolites i had problems with were the X-treme iridium autolites

ran great but were electrically noisy as hell

talked to a guy that was about to put a MSD system on his grand cherokee, we put the autolite X's in before he put in the MSD setup, and they made the same racket that they made in mine

after the MSD setup was installed they stopped making noise

a similar MSD setup for the KJ is somewhere over 700 bucks and it's absolutely not worth it to me

i'll stick with NGK irids or autolite plats

I just checked (yesterday) my Autolite Platinum Plus plugs after ~25k and they still look fantastic. Basic plugs would look really bad by now, but these look awesome. I just put them back in. Shelved the Bosch Platinum plus plugs for awhile.

LOL Sounds like me. Mine are still the originals and the dealership keeps telling me I have awhile to go before they will swap them. Mileage is about 108k lol

my brake also suck they have given headaches and on fender bender :banghead:

. I’m looking at various upgrades some cheap some not so cheap I am thinking of getting regular drilled and slotted rotors just to maintain low temperatures and getting some brembo pads.
As for the spark plugs I put in some bosch 4 tip spark plug and my car feel a little more responsive in the revs and has slightly better fuel economy.
Now I just need something to do with that lazy transmission. :twisted:
