Well the machine shop has requested a oil pan for proper mfg of the adaptor, this is due to the strange thread design involved. This will if nothing else insure we get a perfect fit adaptor that will not interfere will the oil draining out of the pan. Greg has ordered the oil pan from the MOPAR Super Center and it should be at the machine shop by next Friday at the latest. Greg said he will sell the oil pan to anyone that want's it after the machine shop is done with the pan most likely for $100, if anyone is interested feel free to call him at work. So anyway we are at least 3 more weeks away from any drain valves.

Remember guys you will have to have the trans skid plate installed to be able to safetly use this device, actually you don't but it will be hanging about 1 1/2" down out of the oil pan. Now the real problem is if you are not running a trans skid plate the oil filter is a bigger target and hanges lower then the valve will. My advice is spend the $40 for the skid plate before you damage an engine from knocking off an oil filter while running over a log, rock or just a plain old "road gator" from a semi.

FYI:

I called Greg this AM. He said there is no waiting list. He said he'd get the word out once the product is ready, and it will be a product he stocks as a standard item (not a special order). He also said there is no use in calling him until the product is ready. So I'd say if you're considering buying, keep watching for new updates. Until then, there's not much to do.

How about a hand cleaning up the mess from my oil change.  The next one will be different.

I think Greg has got the right idea in just going to stock them for everyday sales. If they put that engine in the Dakota for 07 like I hear they are doing, then he will see a lot more calls for the valves and adaptors.

Guys below is a link to three pic's of the oil pan Greg of Lubercation Specialist sent me today.

One thing you might not notice, but if you look close in 2nd picture the oil plug sticks through the pan by about 2 threads. If you have changed your own oil then you will realize how thick the pan is at the drain hole, about 1 inch. The pan had threads all the way through so we will have excellent adaptor that has all the support required.

The 1st picture shows another plug directly behine the oil filter mount on the pan, yes folks the oil filter mounts to the pan. That plug is a good place for oil temp gage or oil filter by-pass if you want to get one from Greg. The other thing that means is you better have a tranny skid to protect the oil filter, because a hard enough hit to the filter might crack the oil pan.

The third picture is a shot of the sump and part of the front of the pan, one thing Greg noticed was that if you run this thing up on a set of ramps to drain the oil, you will leave anywhere from 1/2 qt to as much as a qt in the pan.

The pan should be in CA by Friday and Greg might have drain valves to sell by end of first week in March. :D

Ok im a lil confused  are we talking about a whole new oil pan set up or just a fumoto valve? Secondly, I saw a lot more than 3 pics from that link, the first set of pics looks like the filter was relocated to inside the engine compartment. Did i miss a thread somewhere about this?

Sorry the top pic's are of the Provent CCV filter one of the member here mounted in his CRD to keep the oil out of the Intercooler.

As for as FUMOTO goes, no it will just be a valve that we will be buying is all. Greg had to order the oil pan for the machine shop to be able to make a proper addaptor for the drain plug.

Ye gods, a 12 pound oil pan? No wonder that Jeep weighs close to 4500 lbs!

Again for those arriving here late is a link to pictures of our oil pan off the vehicle. You will need to scroll down the page to the last three pictures.

Just and update on the availability of the Fumoto valve. Of course we have the valve in stock but we are getting the adapter made. THe shop has pan and plug in hand and right now they are waiting for stock to arrive so they can make them. The shop told me the tread is like nothing they have ever seen before. So they had to cut a couple of sample to get the right pitch and diameter right. But now they have it and can program the CNC machine. Once they have the stock the job will have to be worked into the schedule.

Sounds great to me Greg. Thanks for all the hard work and effort, not to mention the dollars you spent to get this off the ground.

Hope all here can appreciate the effort he put forth.

I would guess about $35 to $45 including shipping. I have just changed my oil and will be foaming at the mouth waiting for enough miles to do the drain again and get the valve installed. I might just go buy one of those oil drain pans that acts as a storage container and drain the oil then put it back in after installing the valve.

Being retired I'm always looking for something to tinker with, but I guess I will wait to do it at regular oil change time.

maybe I missed it in this thread somewhere...but how will this valve install? Does it just screw in place of the factory drain plug and that's it??

The adaper has the valve screwed into adapter and then it is screwed into the pan just like the old drain plug. This will make the oil chamges a clean experience for future oil changes. Changing oil in a diesel can be really nasty from all the soot in the oil and anything that can pretty much eliminate that problem is worth twice the price of this valve & adaptor. You will be able to crawl under the CRD and stick a 3/8" tube onto the nipple (if you order the one with the nipple) stick the tube in a container, then lift and turn the lever and out comes the oil with no tool required.

This is all assuming you have gotten the trans skid plate to protect the back half of the oil pan, oil filter, not to mention the tranny. If you don't have the skid plate you need to get one on even if you never drive offroad, all it takes is a stray piece of junk or hunk of tire from a semi to ruin your whole day if you have a oilfilter knocked off or pan busted or both. Granted your auto insurance will cover the damage, but what is your deductable $100, $500, or $1000? The skid is only $40 and a 15 minute install on the garage floor.

Ok keep us updated. I think I would like one of these. I've been changing diesel engine oil for years even before the Liberty and yes it is some NASTY stuff. This sounds like a great idea and I already have the skid plate (it was the FIRST thing I bought after I got my KJ). I'm going to search the net and try to find some pics of what this valve looks like.
