I don't know. I think it is because of shock loads created from the ESP possibly. For the last couple of weeks, it has been acting a tad strange and last night I drove out to my buddies farm. I tried to do a cookie of 2 with out turning off the esp and it popped a little. Turned off the esp and started turning cookies with no problem with a pop here and there.... No problem I thought. Stayed for dinner and left his house. It is a 1/2 miles of loose dirt till you hit the pavement from his house. Something didn't seem right while driving on the dirt but I didn't give it any thought. As soon as I hit the pavement I know it was jacked. I tried to drive it but after 500 foot of popping and banging, I know it wasn't going to survive on the highway. I turned around and went back to his house where I dropped my drive shaft and drove it home in fwd.... Then spent the next 3 hours with flashlights ripping out the locker and putting back in the spider gears........

Are you getting a refund or a replacement?

I'm going to try for a refund. I'll save my pennies and buy an ARB later down the road

Having seen what I have about the Aussie's I am glad I got the powertrax. I will be swapping it out eventually for a Detroit though I think, especially if Joey will sell me his used one.

You know, it's not that ad of an idea, how ever I don't thing it is meant to constant torque like that in a rear end. Now in a front axle, I bet it would last forever or if I lived in constant snow or dirt, I be it would have lasted longer....

My D30 has an Aussie in it. I think you are 100% correct.

The powertrax has a worse history then the aussie lockers.

Your right Digger it is time for a real locker

Just going from my personal experience, the powertrax no-slip as been fantastic. I've had it longer than Digger and my buddy had their Aussies and I have zero issues.

Digger the Locker in the rear of my KK has done over 20000KM with no problems. The Aussie Locker and the 4wd Systems Lokka that I have are made by the same people. There is only 2 reasons for one not to work, Faulty Material and Incorrect clearences.

When you fitted it what clearences did you have?

i agree... they make you take the clearance measurements or it wont be under warranty. mine's got 15000 miles on it and it get abused with my manual.. and no problems yet 'knock on wood'

The clearances were right on... .008 and .0145.....

Here is the return email I just got

We have discovered a defect is some Chrysler 8.25 carriers where one side of the axle shaft holes are slightly off center. For us to verify the cause of the failure of your locker we need for you to go to www.aussielocker.com on on the left side of the page you will see SERVICES. Click on Contact Us, and then on Talk To Our Engineers. Fill out the form in detail and send it to us. We will assign a technician to your problem, and make arrangements from an RMA to be issued. Because of the nature of the past two failures related to the Chrysler carrier your locker will be sent to an independent consultant for review as to the cause of the failure.
We apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced. We have thousands of Aussie Lockers in daily service for many years with no issues such as you experienced.

Looks like things got a little brighter Nate. Hope everything works out ... I had these on my list of things to do.

My first thought after reading this - Good luck getting a refund. I hope you do without hassle if that's what you want.

Btw; I'd have to recommend a Powertrax if that's what someone is looking for. To each their own. But the DTT in my D30a is coming out (possibly this week) for a ARB to be installed.

Turned off the esp and started turning cookies with no problem with a pop here and there....

esp is still on when you press the useless button. yes you can spin tires but esp will still try to keep the jeep straight by applying brake here and there. try turning cookies without the abs fuse in and you will see

Yeah, I know that doesn't sound right..... but with it in regular mode, it would apply accel and decelerate causing a shock load to the locker... with the button pushed once, it would at least allow for a constant RPM.....
