What besides Fiat's involvement has transpired with the Chrysler restructuring.

I hear conflicting reports in SA about their future in this part of the world even to the extent where it appears that one of the Indian motor manufacturers have built for Jeep in the past and exported to the US

If your refering to Tata Motors that built jeeps under license in India and makes the small Mahindra diesel tractors they are trying to launch a line of Mahindra diesel pickups and small SUV's in the US but have been slowed down and their current release schedule for the pickups is early 2010 and the suv's later. The pickups are supposed to be offeed in 2 and 4 doors and 2 and 4 wheel drive with only a state of the art designed by Bosch Diesel engine for power.

I've read posts that Mahindra's quality in their small trucks released in third world countries leaves something to be desired but their line of diesel tractors is well respected here.

But I have no idea what Fiat has in mind for Jeep and I have read in a automotive newspaper they are thinking about rebadging a small Fiat SUV as a Jeep to sell here

That's correct, it was Tata that built in India so it's possible that my CRD was built in India  perhaps that might be why my doors don't align correctly

I would guess your CRD was built in Toledo Ohio that is about 100 miles from here. The bottom line of my door sticker says "Made In the USA"
But I know that Africa is a country that at least used to require cars sold there had to be assembled there. I had a VW Vanagon that had long since been supeerceeded in the US and many parts I ordered from VW for it were made in South Africa where they were still being made at the time. I know you also had what we called a VW Rabbit here (1975-1984) and an early Golf elseware there many years after they were gone from here too.

But I just don't know about Jeeps
