Have to replace the rear axle. Got this one from someone, but the point where the pinion and driveshaft come together look different. The old one has the big disk, the new one seems to have a different attachment for the driveshaft. SH*&ING MY PANTS!!!

Edit** That's a totally different style pinion flange. Might have to pull swap yokes. It can be done.

nope. the disk is attached to the pinion where the 4 point attachment is on the new one. Perhaps a different flange. I hope it matches up. The new one is still on the pallet so havent measured or tried to fit it up yet.

Do you have any pics that are zoomed out some? Dill the upper A-arm bolt up? Are you sure its from a kj and not an xj or something?

If everything else is the same(including the gearing) you can swap out those yolks.

Its from a KJ. Got it from someone off the board. Both are 03's. Did they change at some point during production. How the heck would I change the pinion flange. Wouldn't that mean having to deal with the crush sleeve and all that crap?

Are there different length drive shafts between years? Looks as if I tried to use my driveshaft with the new axles pinion flange it would be too long. Look at the distance of where it bolts up from the diff housing.

The KJ's with the 45RFE had the actual yoke(like in your pics) while KJ's with the 42RLE got the flange yoke(from my understanding, haven't found a 42RLE KJ with a regular yoke yet). You can just swap the yokes but then you will have all the hassle with that crush sleave, either way you will need a new pinion nut(they are a one time use only nut).

Real life options? without spending a buttload? Would a different drive shaft be an option?

I would just take the axle out of the Jeep and take both of them to a shop and get them to change the yolks out if you dont want to. Wouldnt think they would charge more than an hour labor or so.

What about just finding the driveshaft end of the flange and putting that on the end of your current driveshaft. If the ujoints are the same it should work fine.

EDIT: Yeah like what JJ said.

So my options are
1. swap flange from old axle to new.
would have to deal with crush sleave torque mess.

2. IF POSSIBLE
change out u-joint end of drive shaft to make it compatible withe the yolk already on the new axle.

- Is this possible? Are there drive shaft length differences? What parts would I need?

Option 2 may be easier and would be good since it will replace a DS u-joint with 85k miles on it.

Anyone with an 02 have pics of the DS to yolk union so I can compare?
