any idea about the plan saturday morning, my bud wont make friday but is going to drive up sat morning and stay sat night into sunday, just wondering what time he should shoot for :) on a side note i am so excited cant hardly wait

also if you have any insight on the trails that would be a plus so i could play with my GPS to keep me occupied till D day

We're shooting for a 0900 departure for the trail runs. We have three trails to choose from:

- Cherry Creek Road (E)
- Dupont Cabin (M)
- Edwards Park (M) - with an optional 7 rated detour I plan to take if we run it

Vern will most likely lead Dupont Cabin. If there is any interest in Cherry Creek Road, or Edwards Park, I can lead one of them. Depending on what trails we run Saturday, we can do one on the way home Sunday morning.

If I lead Cherry Creek Road, we'll be running it south to north with a stop at Antler's Cafe, in Young, for an ice cold sarsaparilla before heading back to camp. I believe Vern will also be running south to north and maybe we can all meet up at Antler's Cafe.

As for playing with your GPS... Dupont Cabin and Cherry Creek are not listed in any book that I know of, but I have way points from prior trips if you want me to try and send you the GPX files. Edwards Park is in the Massey and Wilson book... Central #37, and I have those too.

I know what you mean... I always get excited about a trip, especially when people I haven't seen in awhile plan to attend. See you next weekend!!

Oh, one question....I will be hitting the the trails in the family CJ-5. How much highway driving will we be doing from the camp spot to the trail head Saturday morning(the CJ is terrible on the highway)

Not a whole lot of highway driving for either trail. Dupont cabin will have probably 15-20 miles on 188 from campground to tonto basin where the trail starts. Dupont trail then ends on highway 288 with probably a 30-40 mile trip back to the campground. 288 does not have a lot of traffic so it can be driven slowly with no problems. Cherry creek trail has the same amount of driving on 288

Wow, a CJ5!! That will be the first one I've seen on AZ LOST.

Cherry Creek Road is an easy, scenic trail with one steep descent into and then out of a large wash along with some smaller ones. The high light of the trail is a very short side trip to PB Cabin.

- 9.0 miles to the turn off for the trail on Hwy 188 and then an additional 6 miles on a two lane mixed asphalt and hard packed graded dirt.

- 46.9 miles actual trail

- 119.7 miles round trip to and from camp with a stop at Antler's, in Young, at the end of the trail. Return trip is on hard packed graded Road 288 to Hwy 188

The two toughest spots on the trail...

Dupont Cabin is a scenic, easy to moderate trail with some rocky and off camber places.

- 24.4 miles to the turn off for the trail on Hwy 188

- 31.6 miles of actual trail (slow going)

- 123.5 miles round trip to and from camp with a stop at Antler's, in Young, at the end of the trail. Return trip is on hard packed graded Road 288 to Hwy 188

One of the toughest parts of the trail, being careful not to slide off in the wash...

A 67 CJ5 with a terrible suspension, four mismatched tires, brakes that almost stop and a super high coolness factor!

Man, Ernie, making me want to bring the 7 up too.

AJ, has anybody spoken up for all the cornbread, butter, sour cream, cheese, etc for the chili? We've got alot of stuff packed up and if nobody has, then we'll pick up that stuff.

Later,
mike

Bring it sister! Tow that sucker up and we will trade parts on the trail to keep em going! The weather will be nice enough for an open air traverse!

I will go ahead and bring a little corn bread and butter too...that should help out.

No they haven't.

I asked Vern and he is bringing his stove and big pot. Roland said he has left over paper products... what and how much I don't know.

cool, we'll take care of that type stuff then. and maybe a can or hormel for you AJ. haha.

Ernie, if I had a way to tow it up there and back I would. It'd be a long 4 + hr drive.

Neatus asked about trail mileage in one of the posts above. Here is a map of the area and the three trails in relation to where they are that we will be running:

- Cherry Creek Road: (easy, some rocks and a steep wash) okay for a stock height KJ with good tires

- Dupont Cabin: (easy, rocky with a few medium spots) okay for a stock height KJ with skids, tow hooks and good A/T tires

- Edwards Park: (easy to medium with a 7.0 optional side trail I'll be taking) I'd recommend a lifted KJ with skids and good A/T tires because of the 7.0 side trail

Depending on what trails we do... oldhockeyvb will be leading Dupont Cabin.

If there is any interest in Cherry Creek or Edwards Park, I'll be leading those. I'm hoping if we run Dupont Cabin and Cherry Creek on Saturday, we all can meet up at Antler's Cafe, in Young, for an ice cold saspharilla and maybe a quick burger before heading back to camp for the chili fest.
