Anyone know of a gauge pod that shows EGT and Boost for our rigs? I'd like something like a dashhawk, but I've read they don't work with our jeeps. Personally I wouldn't mind a pillar pod with EGT, Boost, and Trans temp. But it's for the wife's car so she wouldn't go for that.

Something ready-made that supports our hybrid Franken-puter system? Not so much. A combined system might be a nice thought, I wish one existed but that used external sensors. I prefer external sensors from the computer's ones, even though you have the problems of installation and figuring out where you want them. The payoff is that you get unvarnished information, and can validate or condemn what the computer 'thinks' it's own sensors are saying when everything gets sideways.

Thats what I'm dealing with now, with this decelerate-stumbles-and-clouds-of-smoke-on-accel problem from mine. I have external EGT and boost, so I can SEE the boost NOT being allowed to rise... Then spiking to 20+ when the computer lets it.

Unfortunately (GDE, this is for you) I haven't gotten better than 3-second resolution in the computer's recording of data... So the data is probably useless.

See where external would be better? I could send the feed (if I had one) from the boost gauge to GDE, and maybe they could figure out what was happening.

I don't deny analog gauges to be better. I've got boost, drive pressure, fuel pressure, and a few more on my truck. The Quadzilla pulse display is more for EGT and numeric display of other dash values. I just know the wife won't have a pillar/dash full of "gizmos" like my truck has. It'd be nice if I could find a single gauge for EGT, Boost, and Temp. I've found a EGT/Boost one though.

A combined egt / boost? I'm guessing it has dual needles, who makes that?

I'm actually thinking about upgrading my EGT gauge, I'm not sure if I'm having a bad gauge or the numbers are accurate... Whats happening is that the gauge seems to read just fine at anything below 1200 or so (its located in the manifold / entrance to the turbo, so higher numbers are OK and to be expected) but if the temp needle goes above 1250 or so, it will suddenly just pin itself at 1600 (the max for the gauge) so I don't know if the temp IS over that level... Or if the probe or gauge don't have the resolution... Or there is another problem. It didn't always do this, but when I'm towing the numbers are higher, but anytime I take a hill, the gauge pins so I have zero information.

real gauges are on my ToDo list - but I haven't gotten there yet
I'd prefer Banks - Just because I have confidence that they have good stuff
http://www.bankspower.com/products/show/150/51

however the best gauge mounting I've seen is Pablo's and he made it himself (without posting a how to)
doesn't look too difficult but need attention to details

Banks - When you positively must spend more money to get less performance.

Sorry, Banks just has a bad rep in the Cummins performance guys eyes. For the money I'll just stick with Isspro gauges like I've got in my truck. As a matter of fact, I've got two new spare boost gauges laying around. Maybe I'll poke around a bit and see how easily I can tap the manifold for a pressure port.

I'm watching a dashhawk on ebay. I've read that some fuctions don't work on it. I'd just like to see if boost would work on it. EGT is an add on for it. I'll have to look further into trans temp.

On the other hand, here's exactly what I'm looking for...
http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/ ... prd367.htm

I'm considering just making my own at this point though. I used to play around with basic stamps, which would be perfect for something like this. The EGT thermocouple and and Trans Temp sender would be easy. The boost would take a little more work, but doable.

I will grab some photos of my setup on the left pillar with the handle removed.
Just went and got the photos
Image

I also got them to match the lighting in the vehicle.

This is the pod, removed the handle, picked up OEM paint to match the interior and
wiring all stays inside the pillar, not visible anywhere, a must for me.

Don't know what happened to posting pictures does not work like last time, any suggestions?

I fixed them in the quote. You were missing the file extension at the end of the image. ".jpg" in this case.

Personally I'd rather have a setup like that. But the wife will NOT have anything like that.

This is my wife's primary vehicle, she uses them when shutting down, best place
I have seen for them in the Liberty so far, without getting in the way.

My wife simply will not have things being "busy". She doesn't want gauges at all. She did agree to allow a single gauge/screen though. My personal truck has a LCD display, Four analog gauges, and a few other various control switches (three actually, plus the controls of the display). She doesn't want anything along these lines. I'm thinking about taking on a winter project and just build my own. I should be able to build something less than the cost of the Dakota brand gauge I listed.

Actually a boost gauge isnt important. Id much rather have a trans temp gauge in that two position pod. Especially if youve got a GDE flash. You dont need to worry about boost.

Ummh, given the history with charge air hoses, I'd argue that. Also knowing boost pressure helps when you're trying to drive for mileage. My truck for example gets 20+ mpg when I keep EGT's under 600F and boost under 5psi.

I've just about decided I'll just build my own display around a basic stamp microcontroller and a display screen. I'm thinking I'll make a setup for EGT, Trans Temp, Boost, and Oil pressure. Best part of all, I could add more functions later on. But to keep it simple with the Jeep, I'd use my own senders for the monitored items.

Yup, again, multiple gauges isn't going to happen. How are the glowshift gauges working? A lot of the cummins forum bought them but weren't happy with the quality.

The EGT gauge I'm having problems with is a Glowshift. I like the color stuff... But function is more important to me and their stupid magnifying lens cover just perfectly reflects EVERYTHING in the outside world during the day, so the gauge is basically invisible and can't be used.

Once I get some money coming in... I think I might switch to AutoMeter unless you (and the cummins guys) have any more-affordable-yet-still-functional alternatives.

Their gauges on the website look nice, what does the F/S mean on most of the pyro listings? I like the fact that the color scheme is changed for pre-turbo or after-turbo installation, obviously I would choose a pre-turbo one. But the colors comparing to the numbers that I was getting when towing... I wonder if the colors only correspond to safe-to-shutdown? I was cruising at around 1k with the big trailer, and towing my smaller 6x12 enclosed box at about 4k lbs also had it at 1k or so for 70mph. That was for a VERY extended period (hours at a stretch) but the gauge was the same on the small trailer whether loaded or not. So I would be into the yellow zone on their gauges... And need info on being safe to the turbo for that.

When towing like that, I don't shut it down until it has had at least 10 minutes. I use the auto-start to restart it immediately after I get the key out, and let it run for the full 15 minutes until it times out.
