Yay one less thing for me to worry about

sorry for the hijack

You and I have the same one then. I've only had the dreaded shudder twice since I bought it new. Once was after F37 entering a freeway at 70 mpg and second was after my GDE tune pulling our camper at 62 in fifth.

so we don't have the same TC as the earlier ones but you have still had the shudder a few times? What kind of camper are you pulling? I am going to be looking for a used camper soon, I hope. that and the load of work the outback was going to need was the reason I traded it for the Jeep.

I've had shudder only TWICE. The pre 11/05 TC's had a cushion or something added to smooth the lockup. This added feature failed within a few thousand miles for many. These were the ones replaced under F37. If they were making a noise they were also to get a new pump and front cover along with a new AC condensor/transmission cooler. Post 11/05 did not have this feature and only got the flash. Our camper is a 17' 3500# (loaded) Casitia Spirit Deluxe. When it shuddered pulling it I was on flat ground in 5th gear and I had slowed to about 60 (still in 5th) and I gave it a little peddle. I senced it comming so I just gave it more peddle and it down shifted and all was good. The other time was scarry because of the speed. I had reentered the interstate from a rest stop. Rapid accelleration to around 70 mph and then I let up on the peddle and it started like a rocking horse, very violent

I have not covered this site enough I guess...

So I just checked my build date and it is Jan 24 2005! I had the F37 done a long time ago (25,000?) and they also had to replace the control unit because they said it would not take the flash. They didn't say anything about replacing other hardware though because I specifically asked if they were going to replace the TC.

A few months later a check engine light required them to change the trans preassure regulator thing. My brother called it the heart of the trans fluid system.

I have never felt any shudder though. How have I gotten so lucky? I have even pulled a CJ 7 and a popup.

Sorry for the continued hijack and long post.

Back when dealers were flashing the controlers hot and heavy a good number of TCM's were not taking the program and locking up and requiring replacement. It was determined later that the voltage level of the Optima battery was getting low over the course of the flashes causing the problem. They later specified battery voltage before starting and keeping a charger connected

So there was nothing wrong with the TCU? That's kind of funny.
