A couple of months ago, another member (KJ 119) posted a warning about the intake temperature sensor on the front port side of the airbox rubbing into his turbo-to-intercooler hose. Taking heed to his warning, I checked and - sure enough - mine was rubbing there too. So at the time I put a piece of Gorilla tape on it to pad it and let it be.

Friday was my day for regular maintenance, so I took another look at that spot. The sensor had now rubbed through the Gorilla tape and was again rubbing into my Samco. So here is an idea for a fix:

I took a Mountain Dew out of the fridge and salmmed it in about 3 gulps. Took out my handy-dandy scissors, and cut the top and bottom off the can, then cut it down the middle to open it up like a sleeve I could put around the hose. Then I took that and went back outside, and cut off a "plate" of aluminum about 2" wide and 3.5" long. Because of the curvature of the can, it fit perfectly onto the hose over the spot where the intake sensor made several indentations. (picture a rectangle of Mountain Dew aluminum, with the short ends facing the turbo/ intercooler, and the wide ends facing the fenders) I then taped it over several times with Gorilla tape, which should hopefully hold it in place for a while.

Sorry for no pics, the install was done by the time I thought of it. I know this is kind of a redneck fix (it would only be better if I had used a Budweiser can or a Pabst Blue Ribbon can but had no beer in the house) but it may provide just enough protection to keep the sensor from rubbing through without dropping $30 on some braided hose cover from Summit.

Wow. When I was putting the stainless braided on my Samco, I never considered cutting up my empty Labatts and wrapping that around the hose.

'Course it was a bottle...

Very creative.

After 10 - 15,000 miles (late Jan, early Feb) I will pull the tape off and check the hose where the edges of the aluminum are, to see if it is cutting or otherwise damaging the hose. I didn't do a full wraparound because I know that the hose expands under boost, and didn't want to crimp it. Also, that aluminum is rather thin, and the sensor may actually rub through it as well depending on how much friction there is there.

Is a club soda can ok? I'm not man enough to handle Mountain Dew, especially in 3 gulps.

Lol. But why would you want to slam a club soda? Unless you ate a pound and a half of 5 alarm chili an hour before? If that's the case, then YOU are more man than me. . .

Hehe. I might mix a Mojito with it, and sip it. Can't make the hose mod until the next day though.
