I have to buy some snow tires this week and am wondering if the anyone has put a set of Firestone Winterforce UV Tires on a CRD? Sears has a really fantastic price on them of $75 a tire. I am leaning toward the 245/75/16 vs the 245/70 size. I know that the 245/70 will fit without any problem, but will the 245/75 fit? I have pounded the pinch weld and heat-gunned the inner fender for more clearance. I have not yet installed a lift due some unexpected funeral expenses with the family. Opinions? I need to order today.

245/70/16 Michelins really fill up my front fender well with the tires turned about 20-30 degrees

Well, I ordered the 245/75 size from sears yesterday. They had to be sent from the firestone factory and should be in by thursday. I'll know then whether or not they fit.

Any particular reason you went with such WIDE tires for snow? I would have thought that the conventional wisdom of wider is better only tracks for sand, not snow / ice...?

The wide tires are a trade off. The roads here have ice as much as snow. On ice the more rubber with sipped biting edges that contact the surface the better. Also, I drive a lot of back roads which don't get plowed. On these roads a narrow tire is useless unless it can bite through the snow to the road surface which it often can't. A wide tire provides better flotation the same as it would on sand or mud. If I were on highways and plowed streets all the time a narrow tire would work better. http://www.snowtire.info/

If you wanted a wider tire, then the 70 series tires would be wider than the 75

The second number in the series, i.e. 70 or 75 does NOT indicate width. It an indication of the height of the tire as a percentage of the width(the first number in the series). The number 70 indicates 70% of 245mm (183.75mm high), 75 is 75% of 245mm (171.50mm high), etc.
