C'mon Shak-try getting your KJ dirty first. I want to see some mud on that shiny ARB before you bail. I was trying to point it out to the wife the other day and you drove away too fast!

Before you ditch the KJ, you'll want to actually TRY a Unimog. It isn't a truck or an SUV...it is a TRUCK. Ma Benz built it for Herr Private Fritz to use, and Fritz wasn't given a lot of ammenities. There are little things like having to use hearing protection while you drive (not from the stereo...what stereo?) while zipping along at 50+MPH (most rigs), finding top speed only on downhills with a tailwind, etc. They are underpowered, loud, spartan, finicky, old, expensive to maintain, difficult to maintain, and unbelievably capable at what they were designed to do. But that excludes most of what most people want to do most of the time with most vehicles...even a Liberty.

Here's a couple of sites I visit from time to time:
http://www.unimogwherehaus.com/trucks.html
http://classicunimogs.com/unimogs_4sale.html
Yes, most of the unimogs that you'll see are old, grumpy, loud and stinky. But loveable, and they'll climb a mountain with tons of stuff on their back. What a concept. :D

Oh, make no mistake: I wouldn't want to get rid of my Mog. But it took a fair amount of work to get it quiet, highway-worthy, and still able to go over everything I've thusfar pointed it at. It still amazes me sometimes.

Sean Philyaw in Georgia is another great Unimog dealer, and for parts and some full trucks, Jim Ince at Eurotech Services International cannot be beat.

Hi!
I was on this event myself ;)
This car with the red external safety cage was Toyota Camry in past times. Transmission and suspension as I remember are from UAZ, but I'm not sure (it is either from UAZ or from Volvo Laplander)
Guys on this car are actually from Latvia.

Hi to everybody!

We was prepare this competition. The road was under the water and it was't so wide…
The prototype’s copilot must check the water in the lake before the drive… Results – you can see in video.

In this year “Ladoga trophy” will be 10-th. Like jubilee.

Welcome to LOST TLCfun and Alvi! Thanks for the information! Now we know why the copilot had that look on his face when he was coming out the drivers window of the Camry (crack me up!) behind the driver. He didn't spot well.

Were either of you a driver or codriver in one of the vehicles? Which vehicle were you in? And how did you do in the river of mud?

Hmmmm, my uncle has an old Chevette that's not doing anything. Anyone got a Mog chassis and some spare time? I think we can take the Camry!!

That look was so bad, because: the passport with Russian visa was somewhere in the car (or in the lake), engine computer after swimming was in the bad condition (engine didn’t start), navigation notebook - was broken, and so on....

No, they are from Latvia.

I'm in the green truck (Russian military truck), which was winch "Camry" out from the lake.

Just winching, winching, winching... :wink
