Had a new rear put in today. remand unit. I didn't have limited slip before on my 03. Shop charged for limited slip additived so I asked about it (got that charge taken off anyway  )
Shop swore up and down all KJs had limited. The order form did not specify, just said it was a rear.
The new rear is painted over and no tags. How can I tell...with out opening it up.

ohhhhhhhhhh and the jeep drives quiet again!!! soooooooooo nice...no more grinding!!!!

The only sure fire way would be to open it up.

However, if they didn't replace the axle housing then it's highly unlikely that you have the LSD now if you didn't before. IIRC the housings are not the same on the inside.

Someone correct me on that if I'm wrong; I've been away from here for a while so I could be a bit rusty.

Jack the rear up so both tires are off the ground and spin one tire forward. If the other side turns the same direction, it is most likely a limited slip. If not, try the other side too. It doesn't always work but on all but a couple of diffs I've tried that on (probably worn out clutches), a LS rear should spin both tires the same direction when no load is present.

They replaced the whole thing, my request.

I'll check that and see if it works JJ.
