Weeellllllllllllllllllllll.....

Here's an update:

The trailer hasn't even been started yet :( The KJ demanded a lot of front end work recently and more is still coming. I also had a recent dental bill to the tune of $800 (with insurance  ) so that ate up most of my trailer budget.... Hopefully that will turn around in the near future...

Oh it's not like things are bad.... if my biggest concern is that my off road trailer build got pushed back a little I really can't complain

I did get a chance to check out the trailers I saw north of here. They were the big ones. I don't know the designation they were but I'm sure they way to big for what you needed.

I think those are a M-104 or something like that... yeah they are something like a 1.5 or 2 ton trailer... very cool...

but a little big for the KJ :D

Well I picked up a new toy for the trip.... should fit nicely in the back of the KJ...

Heading to Denver next week to pick up more goodies.... then heading to PHX and Albuquerque the next to pick up more goodies...

Then the trailer build starts... assuming the KJ doesn't break any more

MORE UPDATES!!!!

THe KJ has decided that it was jealous of all these new goodies so it decided to stop running  Oh well....

I'll get pics up soon, but the 12V fridge was tested on our trip to Phoenix. It worked awesome :D Going to be a great addition to the trip!

I did get some big storage drawers for the back of the KJ... just need to fab up a permanent mount for them.

Heading to the front range to get more goodies later this week!! Stay tuned for that one :D :D

Finally some updates!!!

Picked up a new trailer with the rooftop tent!!! Booya :D

Image

The trailer is an old enclosed cargo trailer that should work awesome and offers some security for the stuff inside.

Image

The tent is a Mombasa and even came with a spare tent body due to a tiny pinhole in the fabric in one spot. The whole thing takes about 2 minutes to set up and seems very cool.... this may be the first time I'm looking forward to camping on the beach... no sand

Image

Image
The trailer barely clears the rear door... our vehicles certainly weren't made for trailering convenience.

I also got the majotiry of the work done on my rear storage... need to fix some mounts and work on some finishing touches still...
Image
Everything closed up... both the cargo shelf/toolbox and drawers are all aluminum.

Image

Everything opened up... tools go inside the cargo shelf up top... whatever I want goes in the drawers... they are HUGE!!!!

A brief update on the trip progress:

Things have been a little interesting as of late. The KJ has decided to inform me of every little bit that needs to be replaced. Not in a subtle way either  I have a to do list that makes my wallet hurt in a bad way

Needs to be replaced/fixed:
-Rack mount bushings
-Front springs and shocks
-wiring in trailer
-trailer hubs
-weld shock mounts to trailer/install shocks
-trailer wheels/tires
-2 window window regulators
-replace L. Rear 1/4 glass
-rewire roof lights
-install new OBA setup
-brake pads
-engine or tranny mounts
-replace trailer ball with lunette
-replace glow plug controller/relay
-fix HVAC

Most likely needs to be replaced:
-UCA's
-LBJ's
-LCA bushings
-rotors
-tie rod ends

MIGHT need to be replaced (hope not $$$$):
-hubs

At least this has all come up before I'm leaving.... 2 months to get it all done

Did a bunch more work on the storage, fridge mount, OBA, and got ready to wire the house battery, inverter, and rear electric. Waiting for my big heap off from end parts to show up so I can get that started.

I guess I'll go ahead and update changes to the actual trip here (should anyone happen to be reading  ):

-border crossing will now be taking place at Mexicali

-The plan was changed to an itinerary that everyone seems to be more fond of. None of us have ever been to Baja before and wanted some time to see how things work before we venture too far off of the radar. We will be doing a fairly standard road trip (see also:Mex 1) down to Cabo San Lucas. I would estimate that it will take 4-5 days at most. Once we are in Cabo and have a general idea of Baja... we will spend the remaining 2 weeks or so meandering back to the border and avoiding all signs of pavement.

That's about all there is for now... back to work on the KJ :D

Fixed glow plug situation for $12.

New front shocks arrived in mail... get replaced along with new OME springs tomorrow

Found rear 1/4 glass at salvage yard for $20...replacing tomorrow

I guess we'll see how bad the front end is when I replace the shocks tomorrow (no dancing banana for that one)

Big day yesterday... all the suspension got replaced. :dizzy:
