i don't know if this question is posted before...if so i am sorry for posting it again..
anyways..my jeep at around 45-50 mph feels like it stalls. i have to press the pedal a little harder to pick up speed. it feels like it loses power. then if i take the overdrive off it picks back up. my overdrive stays on because it is on when i turn the jeep on. it doesn't do this all the time though.
any suggestions? thoughts?
i promise i'm not going crazy. =]

Well for starters - how many miles on it? Auto trans? Have you checked trans fluid? When were the spark plugs last changed?

there is 45,000 miles on it. yes it is auto transmission. no i actually haven't checked any of that. i bought the jeep from carmax and they are supposed to check up on everything before i picked it up. i am supposed to be getting the 45,000 mile check up in a couple of weeks. i took it to carmax to see if they could figure out the stalling problem and they said nothing was wrong with it. maybe they didn't feel it that time. figure i would try this website to see if anyone would have a guess and then just tell them to change what the problem is.

I'd ask if the 30k service has been done, which includes a spark plug change but your issue could be one of many things.I do believe there is a TSB for something on the 42RLE trans, some programming issue but may be for there weak reverse gear though.

Sounds like it is just shifting into overdrive to me. If I'm light on the pedal it runs through the lower gears ok but when I get to overdrive it just stops accellerating and I have to apply more skinny pedal.

Is it actually slowing down or does it just stop accellerating?

I think in city driving the module that controls the trans gets confused. I noticed the shift lag into OD too on several occasions. My driving is 95% city, 5% suburbs, no highway.

Sounds to me like the 42rle just dropping into overdrive. It does that at 45 all the time. You have to really stay on the gas to get it to stay in third until you reach highway speed. Then just ease off the pedal and it will quickly pop back into overdrive.

Does it hurt to drive with the O.D. off when city driving? Would that eliminate or reduce the "stalling" problem?
