Okay so long story short, I had a lower engine block replacement on my 2004 sport 3.7l 4x4 at about 57k.

Got my oil changed at EZ-Lube (dont ask why) at about 60k and they said that the filter in their books for the 3.7l wouldn't fit and they crossed referenced the Mopar one that was on there and ended up putting a PurePro L2222 oil filter.

So I go to change my oil today, go get the Mobil 1 M1-209 oil filter, the one that is supposed to go on the 3.7l. Doesn't fit, the thread hole size is wayyy to small for the bolt on the engine block.

I cross referenced the PurePro L2222 that EZ Lube put on and it matches up to a Mobil 1 M1-113 Filter. Those filters fit on all sorts of Chrysler, Jeeps and Dodges but no 3.7l, the closest is a 3.5l and a 4.0l.

So obviously they put either the wrong oil screw on or a different block, how can I tell and what should I do?

Before the engine block replacement, the M1-209 fit all the time, no problem.

Thanks
Ryan

Buy purepro L2222 or mobile 1 M1-113 filters.

Thats not the point...I can figure that one out on my own. The point is what engine block did they put in my car when my service notes say a 3.7l.

Well, it's entirely possible that the new (or rebuilt, did you specify?) lower block just has a differently threaded bung because chrysler "streamlined" production of replacement parts. Also, other vehicles that use the 3.7 lower block might have different clearances, different oil capacity, etc. I doubt the shop that did it was even aware or had any ill intent... why would they, unless they swapped out liberty engines constantly?

If the capacity or orientation of the filter is substandard to the original or you have to pay twice as much for the filter or puts you in some kind of hardship, I'd take it back to the shop and ask them to check to see if they can source the KJ neck that attaches the filter to the sump and cross-reference with what you have installed. Otherwise, chalk it up to a solar flare and keep on jeeping and update your maintenance notebook with the new requirements. If you don't care that it's different and just really want to know WHY for the pure truth of it, you should probably enroll in a philosophy class instead. You might get more answers
