I'm picking up a set of front tow hooks and the three Mopar skids for my CRD next week....anyone have any advice on the install of these? I know a few have done this themselves on here and I'm sure I'll succeed in messing something up so I'll ask in advance....any tips, horror stories, etc? Its an 05 CRD sport......W

I just did the skid plates this weekend. Very easy to do, has six nutsert. Two for the engine tranny plate and 4 for the transfer plate. I didn't do the fuel tank plate, I did the hitch instead for I don't think that both will work. I could be wrong.

Perfect time to do the gas tank skid is when installing a hitch, but you can always go back and do it later as well. My CRD came with a hitch, but no additional skids or tow hooks. I had to remove the hitch, then reinstall the skid, then the hitch with the same bolts. I just used a floor jack to hold it all up while I put it together.

As for the front tow hooks, you may as well install a front mount hitch because the effort, and cost, is nearly the same. The front bumper has to come off to gain access to a cover plate over the unibody frame box sections in the front - behind which you can access the bolt holes.

Check out my site for a picture of the front end removed and front hitch just installed. The black boxes on the bumper area are the covers that need removed.

The local Jeep dealer was clueless about skids for the CRD. Do you have part numbers and prices?

Like that front mount Reese hitch, looks good. Where did you get it and how much did it cost?

Did you have to trim the bumper or is it just pushed up from the hitch?

kjfishman,
The parts guys shouldn't be clueless. All the skids for the 2005-2006 rigs no matter what engine/tranny uses the same skids. All of them including the fuel tank skid. You will also need the engine/front suspension skid as the one that's there is just a sheet of metal to protect the sound dampening material underneath. Don't asked me why they did it, from a production standpoint it would appear to me it would cost the same installing either on the rig.

He has a CRD and it comes with front skid standard, the transmission skid on CRD is different from the gasser skid, not sure of transfer case skid, fuel skid is standard between V6 & CRD model.

Transmission skid on the CRD is the same as the gasser. Prior to 2005, there were no transmission skids from MOPAR for the Liberty.

Local dealer says there is two different skids, with two different part numbers is all I can say. I didn't personally look throught the parts computer.

The engine/transmission skid has a dip area to make room for the CRD 2.8L oil filter and it is reinforced and well built. The transfer skid is just a small plate that attached with 4 bolts and nutserts.

engine/trans skid 82210003 $49
transfer skid 82209455 $49
hitch/receiver 82207535 $179
harness/4prong 82207290 $89
slush/mats/gray 82209244 $69 front and rear
Ventshades 82206973 $89 All four doors

I'm not worry about the fuel tank as much as the rest of the undercarriage. I may go off road but not for play or rock climbing. If someone hits me in the rear, they have to go through the hitch first.

So are you saying that there is indeed a different part number for the CRD tranny skid vs the V6 Tranny skid? I just ordered a tranny skid, They didnt seem to have more than one number?

The one I ordered was the skid that goes between the front suspension skid and the trasnfer case skid just for clarity.

I think that the tranny skid will work for both CRD and 3.7L engine. I did note that there is more room at the upper right front of the skid for the CRD oil filter that hangs down a little there.

Same skid. One part number comes with the bolts and nutzerts. The other part number is just the skid - for those that want to mount with their own bolts.
