The Marines didn't have enough tanks to go to war, so they borrowed from the Army. Meanwhile, USMC LT.General Boomer (Commander of USMC forces during the Gulf War) called for the U.S. Army 2nd Armored Division be attached to his Marines. The Marines were outstanding to us. Especially after Gen. Boomer educated his armor Marines, MEF, and Recon Forces to the history of "Hell on Wheels" - The motto bestowed upon the 2nd Armor Div back in WWII which continued thru Vietnam.
In a nutshell - On October 10, 1990, we (2nd Armor Div / U.S. Army) deployed to Saudi Arabia. On February 24, 1991, we entered Iraqi-held Kuwait. Our objective was Kuwait City. We mowed down and destroyed everything in our way to liberate Kuwait City. Approximately 100 hours later, we had taken back the emirate.
Unless you (generally speaking) were there I have no personal stories to share. But I will leave you with one thing - To this day there are a handful of Marine's who will be my brother's until the day I die. I continue to keep in touch with several.
