Ok, I've got a bad injector. FSM says I have to have the injector code programmed in via the scan tool.

Anyone else replaced an injector or is this a dealer only job?

You do not have to have the trim codes, it will be ok without them, but you should want them, for sure. There's really no reason why the dealership cant do it. If you just hate them, i understand that completely. But yeah gde and others have to transfer your vin information and trim codes when you get a tune.

Here's something to consider though, over time the flow rates of our injectors change anyway, and afaik our engine has no way to make up for it. i guess they just assume constant wear rates across the nozzles. What i'm saying is that if you have 50k on 3 nozzles (we don't actually have injectors, technically) and 0 miles on the fourth, your rates are not going to be even anyway, so it kinda does not matter. Yeah if it was mine i'd have it programmed in. And no i'd not do it at the dealer unless i absolutely had to, i hate em.

Caterpillar and other mfg fuel systems have ways of measuring the rates of different injectors and adjust for them every x hours of operation.
