Looking for some solid advice from you mechanics out there.
I have read posts about JET chips, B&G, superchargers, cold air intakes etc to boost some more horsepower out of the 3.7L engine.

What is the real scoop? I don't mind paying for performance but like everyone else, don't want to waste my money.
Has anyone found a real package that works to boost the horsepower?

Is it something I can do at home or should it be taken to a shop for a fine tune? I am not looking to race sports cars, just would like a little more power for hills and just getting on the highway.

I would appreciate it if anyone could steer me in the right direction.

Many Thanks :)

It seems from all the threads I have read, the B+G chip is the best compared to the jet chip. My own experiance with the Jet chip is not so great, they say a stage 2 chip is better but when I contacted Jet about this they said stay with the stage 1.
The Cold air intake works good but it works better with a high flow exhaust. Most people on here run Flow master or Magnaflo.
Headers for this motor would be great but so far no one is making them. I have not put a high flow catylatic converter on mine yet but my nephew tells me they help the engine breath better. With out using a super charger or nitrous system (which create other issues) you might get an additional 15-20 HP.
You'll find more info in the 4X2 performance section.
good luck.
Tom.

Thanks Tom, the search continues. I did have my shop add a "free flow" exhaust system which has helped some but now should I do the cold air intake??

If you want to do water crossings and mud, dont get CAI. I would reccomend a snorkel if you want performance as well as Off-road capability's still. There is no "Liberty" snorkel yet but you can retro fit a Tacoma snorkel to fit the KJ according to ARBSeth.

You may want to look into a Underdrive Pulley kit.

They do make a snorkel for the KJ. I almost got one before I got my Cold Air Intake. If I remember correctly Safari makes them. They go up the pass. side. But do they really give any performance? I dont really know about that?

technically, the snorkel would provide a cooler and possibly cleaner source of air, but the amount of plumbing to get the air to the engine may not add any noticable power increase. The point is probably moot anyway, because nobody make a kit for the KJ. There is a thread discussing the possible developement of a kit adapted from the one for the Toyota Tacoma.

The biggest upgrade for performance would be the free flowing exhaust.

Really? Show me the kit. ARBSeth (Works for ARB) says there isnt a kit for it but if you say there is then I want to see it.

the only snorkels I have seen are home fabbed...ARB themselves told me in an email that the wasn't enough demand.

I know I know you are thinking about the KJ on the Jeeps Unlimited forum with the snorkel and the tires sticking way out with the winch on top of the bumper behind the manik brush guard...That was built in mexico from what I have heard.

Look at the pic really closely. Yep that is PVC pipe. It would be cheap and easy to make though...I got a 2 inch hole saw if you want to experiment on your rig...

After I did my Frankenlift and tires (BFG AT/KO 245/75R16) my KJ was working alot harder to accelerate and maintain speed. The first thing I did was have a Magnaflow exhaust welded in and it made a big improvement. After the exhaust I still noticed that when I was going up overpasses and small hills the transmission would have to shift out of overdrive to hold 70mph. Even accelerating around town was sluggish. After I added the AEM Brute Force CAI I can hold OD over hills and it feels like it has more power when I accelerate. It also doesn't have to work as hard to hold a speed around town and on the highway.

from what I have read from folks is that to add a supercharger, the internals need to be beefed up. The stock pieces for the gasser will not hold up to boost.

But what do I know, I cant find the spark plugs on mine

Ok, so in lieu of the snorkel for now, who knows where I can find a AEM Brute Force CAI unit for a 2006 libby limited?

Sounds good. I would love it if there is a kit for the KJ. Any idea if its lower than the ARB price? Its listed at $309.00 for the kit.
