I just got done replacing my vacuum module because of the 1252 code and went in with a scan tool which previously worked and could not get it to boot into the computer. my boss thinks the ecm is to blame and is covered under my 80k emission warranty. but has anybody else has issues not being able to read anything with a scan tool before. this is my first time with this thing. there is no programming or anything done to it yet it is all stock and always has been. we have owned this thing since new and haven't had too many problems with it and never anything that required a scantool to be used. so it is not like the ecm has been overflashed or something.. I have seen that happen on trucks like mine (05 dodge cummins) where guys reprogram their ecm's too many times and fry it but this thing is about as virgin as it gets with only 58k on it. I am going to try a different scan tool later this week the snap on guy will be by and I am going to grab a solus from him and try it but our scanner has never had issues like this before.

Some 06 had to be flash and reflashed to work with scan tools. Mine had the problem and had to have a second TSB flash and all is well. :5SHOTS:

I have owned mine since new also and have had the reflash. I have 2 scan tools an Innova and a Scan Guage. They have both always been hard to connect to the CRD. I just keep trying different ways, key off or on before hooking scan tool up. I forget which way works but I eventually get it to work. It is too cold out now to go out and try.

The flash that caused third party scanners not to work was a early release of what became F37 :| They did it to mine in June 06. The flash to correct third party scanner problems was a recall and was F31. Later I got the offocial F37

To get mine to connect I have to drive it through an entire drive cycle (up to operating temp) and then, immediately after stopping and shutting off the engine, I connect the scan tool to the OBD port and turn the key to "On." Works every time. Before, If I let it sit for a while before scanning, it would not connect. I have an Innova scanner.

the one we use at the diesel shop is a genesis evo from napa... I didn't get a chance to try it today, the wife stole it. I will bring it to work tomorrow and try the solas snap-on one and see how it goes...

well tried the snap-on one at work today and was even worse than the other one... the snap-on scanner won't even give me a choice of engines only the 3.7 v6. at least the genesis gives me the gas 4cyl option.... I guess it is off to the dealer to get a new ecm.

Rather than throw good money after bad, why don't you inquire of Green Diesel Engineering if you can buy an ECM from them already loaded with the tune?

I have considered one from them but mine is under warranty. I would rather get one replaced under warranty and later buy one from them and still have a good one around. or if it was out of pocket I would def be buying one from them or somebody like them, but from what I have heard and seen on here I would most likely buy from them.

Ahh, good call. Didn't realize you were under warranty. Maybe ask them if you can keep the old one "for posterity."

I know how that will work out... I work at a dealership and we have to hold all warrantied parts for something like 180 days and if they don't get called back then we have to destroy (get rid of) them. I have gotten my hands on a few things worth taking when we needed to clean house... right now I have my eye on a supercharger off of a 3.8 3rd gen motor just like the one that is in my daily driver grand prix. I have 20 days left then I will get to "destroy" it.
