I have a 02 rennegade and found the first time changing oil and filter I tought myself a few new words trying to get my gorilla sized arm in to change filter not to mention the skid marks left on my arm. Lucky for me being an AMSOIL dealer and running extended oil and filter change intervals I don't have to do it as often. AMSOIL offers on oil filter Relocation kit. Haven't ordered it yet. Wondering if anyone has this same problem. or has an easier fix for this. The factory drain that DC designed to catch the oil under filter was a nice touch to divert oil over diff and through engine skid. Thus missing my oil drain pan. ANY IDEAS.

I to am wondering about a filter relocation kit for my 06 CRD. being that it hangs down so low it could be a potential problem for off roading...

you need two things to make this an easy situation:

1. 24" Ratchet extension
2. Spider Wrench (oil filter wrench)

After you have both those things, life is cake...

i agree with fish eye. myself and my guys do oil changes at our shop everyday on these. that is what works best. alot of the newer trucks/suvs are using a setup similar to the one on the kj.

A "spider" ( type of a oil filter wrench) has three fluted legs that clamp against the spin-on cartridge ( oil filter) and "dig in," preventing slippage. It has an end plate for a ratchet, and because the spider legs extend 2-1/2 in., they grip well past the outer end of the filter. This design provides well-distributed gripping power.

A 24 " inch rachet extention is a, well lets just stop here because if you do not know what one is,( and that is ok) you more then likly do not have one.Just tell the person at the auto parts store ( napa, autozone, etc.) what you need and he will fix you right up!

You have got to be putting me on about the ratchet extention, right? If not maybe you should just have your oil changed some where for you.

No.. I know what a ratchet and extension are  I was wondering how that applied to the oil filter relocation kit.

Well, once you get those parts, you can get you KJ on some ramps, lay down under the front, and run the exension up through the front end, and then attach the spider wrench to it. From there, just loosen the filter and spin it off a little bit. Not all the way though. Let some of the oil run out and it will be routed through the skid plate if you have one. If not, just let some of that oil out of the filter. Grab yourself a rag, and spin the filter off the rest of the way. It will probably get a little messy cause the filter will still be full of oil, just watch out.

Good luck!!
