There are some things to sort out calendar wise thats for sure. There is already a Winter 2010 Cape Trip poll and post:

http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=43672

and I seem to recall that Pipes was talking about going back to the Simpson next year with tents for the crossing,

and we have Jambo 2010 in late September as well (which could be an add-on to a before or after the Victorian High Country trip). I don't think there would be much demand for a winter 2010 Victorian High Country Trip ( bring your snow chains and learn to build a snow cave in the dark), but on the way back from Jambo it could be a goer. That Jambo/Vic High Country Trip coming back into NSW through the Alpine National Park tracks would really be something (however, there would probably still be snow up there at the end of September and I'm not sure of how 'doable' those tracks might be at that time of the year ie closed to traffic- research required.

So I'm still keen on the Cape Trip (with options for all - like I don't really want to do the Old Telegragh Track and would be happy to do the bypass tracks) but others might want to do the OTT.

I'm listening.

We had planed on going to the Jambo in late September and making a road trip holiday out of it. Some of the higher tracks are reopened on the weekend of the Melbourne Cup I believe, which is about a month after Jambo. There should be still plenty of area's where we could still get to in October.

Decisions, decisions................Kimberleys, Cape, Jambo/High Country ............

We will DEFINITELY be going SOMEWHERE for 3-4 weeks around Sept next year - possibly not Victoria though, have you seen their weather recently?

Yesterday Team JAG (well at least G of JAG) and I were discussing the next LOST trip. As the northern dry season is only 8 months away it is a good time to bump this thread back to the top of the forum and encourage further discussion about the LOST calendar for 2010.

You may recall that back in May I proposed a Cape Trip for 2010:

http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=43672

which attracted some interest.

At the the top of this thread JAG had indentified other destinations as well:

* The Kimberly's - perhaps via an east to west crossing from Cairns via the Savanah Way, etc.

* The Victorian High Country perhaps as a add on to Jambo 2010.

There has also been some talk about a LOST Red Centre Re-run with Simpson crossing.

Let's start kicking these around because while we might all like to do all of these, the realities of time, finances, etc mean that choices will need to be made. Personally I would like to see the NSW LOST people get behind this planning cycle this time (Gi-frog, CD, ED, etc).

It also an opportunity to co-ordinate with LOST WA on possible meetups whether Jambo, Kimberly's, or where-ever.

Let the chat begin.

Probably the first thing to decide is how long a trip are we planning for - 2 weeks, three weeks, four weeks? Personally I don't care, I can manage any duration, but there's not much point in organising a trip from the east coast to the Kimberleys if most people can only manage a fortnight.

So if you are interested in a LOST trip next year, let us know how much time you will have available.

Do you guy's want to drive to Perth?

Stay at our home, plenty of room in the back yard, see Perth then we all head up straight North and get totally LOST.

I would like to do this run....maybe to include the Gibb River Rd on the way back....Anyone interested :?:

http://www.savannahway.com.au/site/map.asp

The return trip is about 10,552km from the Gold Coast via Winton  need 5-6weeks. Could probably do it in 4 but it would be constant driving.
So who's interested :?: :D

I would also like to do that run some day but not next year as we have OS travel plans for Easter and we are planing to do the Jambo and Vic High Country in September/October. The play money and work A/L only stretches so far.

An initial date of the 19th June 2010 to depart the Gold & Brisbane has been discussed between J.a.G & Team Pipeliner. This date apparently will over-lap W.A. School holidays for those of you in the west that would be interested to join up with us, which would be great.

At this stage there is still some flexibility, but will need to be locked in shortly to enable those requiring Long service leave & holidays etc. to be approved.

Anyone, who is interested please let your thoughts and requirements be known as soon as convenient.

Just reading this back, so is it definite that the Pipeliners and Team JAG are doing the Savanah Way trip to WA departing on 19 June and that this is a five-six week duration trip?

For those not able to do that trip, are other options still on the table?

As a reminder for Gi Frog, and others, there is a two-week school holiday Desert Trip being organised through SJC:

Details - Sydney to Poeppel Corner in the Simpson Desert and Back - July School Holidays 2010
Saturday 3 to Friday 16 July 2010 – 14 Days total. (11 Days Broken Hill to Cobar)
Via
Broken Hill,
Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges,
Marree,
Lake Eyre,
Birdsville Track,
Poeppel Corner (Weather / Track conditions permitting)
Big Red and the Birdsville Hotel,
Innaminka,
Old Strezlecki Track,
Cameron’s Corner,
Tibooburra
White Cliffs.
And many other beautiful, historic Australian vistas!

Some of the above route is dependent upon the Warburton Track being open, and this will be determined by the end of March, alternative routes are planned if it is not open.

SJC welcomes LOST members that might want to join this trip. You can contact me for more details.

and just a reminder that Jeep Jambo 2010 is coming up at the end of September in Victoria.
